Coppa Titano: Tre Penne celebrate after extra time, Tre Fiori, La Fiorita and Virtus through
La Fiorita wrap up their tie with Juvenes-Dogana inside twenty minutes, quickly racing into a 2-0 lead through Brighi and Zaccaria. After just 4 minutes the former Rimini centre-back makes the most of a knock-down from his defensive partner Zazas Sanchez to finish from the heart of the penalty area. Gentilini can do nothing, and less than ten minutes later he is again picking the ball out of the back of the net. It’s a splendid vertical move from La Fiorita, embellished by two back-heel flicks – including one from Massari, which opens up the box for Zaccaria’s run without the ball. Zaccaria sits the goalkeeper down, skips past him and rolls the ball into the net. The holders virtually book their place in the semi-finals, though they do have a scare at the start of the second half when Baldazzi rattles the crossbar. The 4-0 aggregate scoreline keeps Ceci’s side well clear of danger; in fact the Gialloblù keep pushing for more but Gentilini produces a superb save to deny Semprini on 62 minutes.
Virtus and Tre Fiori only needed the second legs to make their semi-final places official. The four-goal advantages they had built against Faetano and San Giovanni were never in doubt. The Neroverdi shiver when Renzi’s right-footed effort forces the best out of De Angelis on 12 minutes. Barletta is just as sharp at the other end, stretching after the half-hour mark to claw away a Benincasa header. Before the interval, Capriotti fires off target. In the second half Virtus break through with a fine move involving Buonocunto, Rizzo and Gori: the latter reaches the by-line and pulls back for Benincasa, who finishes left-footed from close range. In stoppage time Pecci produces a moment of pure class, cushioning a long ball on the edge of the area before taking on and beating three defenders in a tight space and once again finding a way past Barletta for the final 2-0.
The clash in Montecchio between Tre Fiori and San Giovanni is far more gripping. Corinti threatens early on, while Nicola Sartini’s knock-down in the six-yard box finds no team-mate. Sitting on their 4-0 first-leg lead, Girolomoni’s side look to hit on the counter. Di Noto has to be alert to deny Ericchiello, who then fails to convert on 36 minutes when he hits the post from close range and again on 45+2' when he fires wide one-on-one with the goalkeeper. At the start of the second half it is once more Corinti who creates the first opening, drawing another save from Nardi. At the other end, Rea breaks the deadlock with a free header from Ciccione’s corner. San Giovanni almost level through Zanni, whose mishit cross-shot surprises Nardi but comes back off the post. Moments later Tre Fiori put the tie to bed thanks to the Bernardi–Djadji combination, the latter chesting the ball over the line. San Giovanni honour the tie right to the end, going on to draw on the night thanks to strikes from Bastianelli and Aprea, set up by Cocco and Montebelli.
From the outset, Tre Penne–Folgore looked the most finely-balanced pairing. So it proved this evening, with the match going all the way to extra time. After long-range efforts from Golinucci and Guidi fail to trouble the keepers, Dormi has a glorious chance on his favoured left – but instead of shooting first time on Ceccaroli’s lay-off, he overplays it in the box and the opportunity is gone. Pancotti is far more clinical, and on 38 minutes he latches onto a pass from Ura, races through on Migani and dinks it over him with a delicate chip. In the second half Tre Penne need nine minutes to get back in front on aggregate: Scarponi ghosts between Brolli and Touré to head home unchallenged from Nigretti’s cross. Soon after, Guddo denies the midfielder a brace and keeps Folgore in the tie – a lifeline they seize late on. Brolli launches the ball into the area for Turrisi’s flick-on, which drops to the far post where Vandi fails to clear and Miori punishes him: 2-1, and extra time looming large. Deep into stoppage time Guidi has the chance to level the aggregate score again, but his effort only strikes Dormi – who is in any case offside. In extra time the first real opening falls to Bitti, who fizzes a diagonal shot just past the upright from inside the box. A special tie is settled by an equally special goal: Amati crosses towards the near post, where Moscardi adjusts his body to score with a back-heel volley. The intention becomes reality and an Ibrahimovic-style goal is delivered: Tre Penne are virtually in the semi-finals thanks to an absolute moment of magic from their striker. Cardellino then seals the deal, finishing off a counter-attack from a Cecchetti assist to make it 3-2 and send Berardi’s side through to a two-legged semi-final with Tre Fiori. On the other side of the draw, one of La Fiorita or Virtus will contest the next Coppa Titano final.
