Fixtures: the new football season takes shape

As was the case last year, on the sidelines of Calcio Estate the draw for the Campionato Sammarinese fixture list and the Coppa Titano bracket was held. Proceedings began with the regular season, which will decide the San Marino league title, to be awarded after thirty matchdays to the team finishing top of the table. Should two or more sides end level on points, a play-off would be required to assign the trophy, regardless of goal difference or head-to-head records.

Virtus will attempt to defend their title from the last week of August, when the opening round of league fixtures is scheduled. Fittingly, it will be last season’s two main protagonists going head to head: the Neroverdi will in fact face La Fiorita. San Marino Academy will kick off against Libertas, while the Cosmos-Tre Fiori clash also carries plenty of appeal, as Selva’s and Girolomoni’s sides make their league debut. It will not be Tre Fiori’s first outing of the season, as the Fiorentino club will contest the Supercoppa Sammarinese – to be played against holders Virtus on the evening of 27 August. That match will effectively launch the 2025-26 San Marino sporting season.

The ceremony was rounded off by the draw for the Coppa Titano bracket. Under the regulations, Virtus receive a bye at the Round of 16 stage as the No. 1 seed. Seeding privileges also apply to La Fiorita (2), Tre Penne (3) and Tre Fiori (4), who were not included in the draw and have already been placed in such a way that they cannot meet each other before a potential semi-final. In addition to the Borgo Maggiore derby between Cailungo and Libertas, whose winners will face Virtus in the quarter-finals, San Giovanni-Cosmos and Folgore-La Fiorita stand out as ties of undeniable interest at this stage of the competition. The first legs of the Round of 16 are scheduled as midweek fixtures on 24 September, with the return legs to be played in the week of 22 October.
