FSGC: Tura and Zafferani overseas for FIFA Summits and World Cup opening
FSGC President Marco Tura and General Secretary Luigi Zafferani travelled last week to Mexico City, at FIFA’s invitation, to represent San Marino football at the opening of the FIFA World Cup 2026 – currently being held in Canada, Mexico and the United States – and to take part in high-level meetings, including the FIFA Executive Football Summits 2026. The latter were staged in Miami, Florida, where the San Marino football leadership flew the day after Mexico-South Africa – a match they attended from the stands of the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, alongside the top executives of all FIFA member associations. Following a visit to the FIFA Museum, work began on the FIFA Executive Football Summits 2026 (in plenary session). At the heart of the discussions, among other topics, were the FIFA Forward programme, the U15 World Cup, global broadcasting reports and trends with an in-depth presentation by DAZN, and an analysis of data and trends from the NBA ecosystem – which has recently crowned its 2026 champions. The agenda will be completed over the course of this week: today is dedicated to break-out sessions within the framework of the FEFS 2026, to which the San Marino Football Federation will also be able to grant its contribution. “These forums are where issues related to international football are addressed directly, allowing us to preview – and share approaches and feedback on – innovative developments that will become part of everyday life in the future. For a reality like San Marino, taking part in such prestigious events is also an unmissable and vital opportunity to strengthen and confirm the excellent, solid relations we have with the leadership of world football,” emphasised President Marco Tura.
