Futsal: Cailungo win the derby and climb to 12th place
The late kick-off at the Multieventi goes Cailungo’s way. Venerucci’s side make the most of the first half to open up a gap on San Giovanni and, in the end, after withstanding the Rossoneri’s desperate late comeback attempt, they can celebrate overtaking Faetano in the table as well, climbing into 12th place – a position which, if the league ended today, would guarantee the red-and-greens access to the post-season. As mentioned, it is effectively in the first half that Cailungo lay the foundations for their victory. After 6 minutes, Sarti explodes down the left flank and cuts the ball back into the middle for Burgagni, who beats Agostini with a simple close-range touch. In the 22nd minute Zonzini clashes with Sarti and, as he gets back to his feet, reacts badly, rightly receiving a straight red card. San Giovanni manage to survive the numerical inferiority; however, they are punished shortly after restoring parity in terms of outfield players. From deep, Moroni launches long for Venerucci, who beats Agostini at his near post. Riding that momentum, Cailungo also find a 3-0 lead before the break. The move is practically a carbon copy of the one that produced the opener, only this time it unfolds down the right-hand side. Most of the work is done by Rossini, whose ball into the middle of the area finds Elia Sarti ready, and his side-foot finish provides his team with a relatively comfortable cushion. Early in the second half Rossini could have stretched Cailungo’s advantage to four, but his toe-poke effort crashes against the crossbar. The 3-0 scoreline remains unchanged until the final phase of the game. At this point Salvatore Franchino, San Giovanni’s coach, opts to play with a flying goalkeeper. And it is the goalkeeper himself, Agostini, who, diving forward, heads in Severi’s chipped ball beyond his opposite number Giulianelli, restoring hope for San Giovanni who, in stoppage time, pull back to within one goal thanks to a 10-metre free-kick converted by Berardi. But that is effectively where the contest ends. Thus San Giovanni miss the chance to build on their victory over Folgore, while Cailungo can savour a win that had been missing since Matchday 6. And, above all, a provisional place in the sun.
