Futsal Champions League: Fiorentino in Cyprus, first test tomorrow
With the European cups over as far as football is concerned, it is now futsal’s turn. Fiorentino landed yesterday afternoon in Larnaca (Cyprus) before travelling a few kilometres further south – to Limassol, on the Mediterranean island. Matteo Michelotti’s team will in fact be competing in the preliminary round of the UEFA Futsal Champions League which, as has been the case for a few seasons now, features a group of four teams, with only the winners progressing to the next round.
This afternoon Michelotti’s players held their first training session, getting a feel for the court at the Spyros Kyprianou Arena in Limassol. Tomorrow comes the group G opener: the opponents are the Swiss side Futsal Minerva, faced two years ago by the rossoblù club; kick-off is at 17:00 local time (16:00 in San Marino).
The following day – Thursday 24 August – Fiorentino will take on hosts AEL Limassol, with the match scheduled for 20:00 local time (19:00 on the Titan).
On Friday the players will have a rest day, while on Saturday they will play the third and final group match: at 16:00 local time (17:00 in San Marino) Michelotti’s team will face Yerevan Futsal, a side from Armenia. The return to the Republic is planned for Sunday.
