Futsal Champions League: Folgore heading to Switzerland at the end of August

It was far from the kindest of draws for Folgore, the reigning San Marino futsal champions. Massimiliano Spada’s men will in fact be in action in Bern, the Swiss capital, from 23 to 28 August. Drawn into Group D of the Preliminary Round of the UEFA Futsal Champions League, the Giallorossoneri from Falciano will face Futsal Minerva. The Swiss club met Fiorentino last year, running out 17-1 winners. It was a show of strength aimed at reaching the final match with a superior goal difference, which would have allowed them to go through even in the event of a draw against Moldova’s Dinamo Plus. That scenario did not materialise, as it was the Moldovan side who went on to win the head-to-head clash and top the group with maximum points. For Folgore it will be a very different story: the first ever appearance on the European stage for Falciano futsal, who – understandably – have been approaching their Futsal Champions League debut with eager anticipation and great enthusiasm ever since the day after securing their second domestic title. After achieving the double at home, Spada’s team have rightfully earned the chance to represent the Republic of San Marino at the highest level of continental futsal. In addition to hosts Futsal Minerva, who will open the doors of the Sporthalle Weissenstein in the last week of August, the group also features Serbia’s champions Loznica-Grad 2018 and Norway’s Vesteralen Futsal.
