Futsal Cup, new format introduced: Final Eight to debut in the 2025-26 season
The Federal Committee, which met yesterday evening at the House of Football, has approved a change to the format of the Titano Futsal Cup, as an exception for the 2025-26 season. Compared to the system we have become familiar with in recent years, the major innovation is the introduction of a Final Eight, to be played as single-leg ties over the course of just a few days at the end of the sporting season.
The Round of 16 – the opening stage of the competition – will involve fourteen teams, following the model of the Coppa Titano, from which the bye for the holders has also been borrowed: Murata are therefore already guaranteed a place in next year’s Final Eight, having won the tournament a few weeks ago. The ties at the Round of 16 stage will be the only ones to be played over two legs, with extra time and penalties if required to decide the pairing in the event of a continued deadlock on aggregate.
