Futsal: Folgore reach final, Domagnano are second side eliminated

Fiorentino beat Domagnano 2-1 to knock them out of the Championship play-offs. Mussoni's side are the second team to bow out after Virtus. The key in Fiorentino’s opening tie was Moretti’s brace: the number 8 in red and blue struck first on 21 minutes in the first half and then delivered the decisive blow late in the second half, after a cleverly taken free-kick by Belloni had briefly dragged the Wolves back to level terms, albeit only temporarily. The reigning champions thus book their place in next Friday’s quarter-final, when they will face their neighbours Tre Fiori for a spot in the second semi-final. The first of the semi-finals was played last night immediately after Domagnano – Fiorentino. It pitted against each other two sides with a flawless record so far in the Scudetto play-offs, Folgore and La Fiorita. The Falciano side asserted their authority to become the first team through to the Championship final. In many ways it felt like a replay of last Thursday’s clash between the same Giallorossoneri and Tre Fiori: Folgore flew out of the blocks, stepping hard on the accelerator to go 4-0 up before half-time, thanks to doubles from Busignani and Massimiliano Bernardi. After the restart La Fiorita pulled one back through Pellegrini; Felici then restored Falciano’s four-goal cushion, but Stolfi replied almost immediately to give La Fiorita at least some hope of a comeback. There was in fact more than half the second period left to attempt the feat, though it was always going to be extremely difficult. Palermino’s men were unable to complete the mission and instead conceded again – to former La Fiorita player Bernardi, who sealed his hat-trick – before the final whistle. With this defeat La Fiorita drop into the second semi-final, scheduled for next Monday against the winners of the derby between Fiorentino and Tre Fiori.
