Futsal: Folgore sit out, Fiorentino face La Fiorita in bid to catch leaders

With Folgore on a break, Fiorentino – who have already served their rest round – are setting up their assault on the summit occupied by the Falciano side. To do so, Michelotti’s men will need to overcome, in Acquaviva (kick-off 21:45), the hurdle posed by La Fiorita – coming off four wins in their last five outings. The Gialloblù from Montegiardino are keen to show they can match the level of the two joint leaders and, ideally, put a spanner in Fiorentino’s works. All the more so because at the same time in Dogana (21:45) Tre Fiori and Virtus go head-to-head, currently third and fifth respectively. The club from Fiorentino, after coming close to the feat of reopening the race for a place in the Titano Futsal Cup final in Thursday’s derby, will have the chance to pull away in the table and solidify third place in the league. Otherwise, Virtus could tighten up the chasing pack behind the leading duo. That is also what Domagnano are hoping for, as they are tasked with facing bottom side Cailungo, who recently snapped a long losing streak with a 4-3 win over Tre Penne. This match will also be played at 21:45, but at the Fiorentino venue. As for the fixtures scheduled for 20:15, Tre Penne v San Giovanni is a delicate clash on the edge of the play-off zone. Both sides are on 13 points, like Libertas, and know that the match in Fiorentino is one they cannot afford to lose. The aforementioned Granata will face a Pennarossa side sitting comfortably in mid-table, too far from the top positions and sufficiently safe from being dragged into the relegation scrap. Libertas are fully embroiled in that battle and – like the others – will be keeping a close eye on Faetano v Cosmos. Corbelli’s men, together with Tre Penne, have collected just one point from their last five games – namely the draw between Faetano and Tre Penne. For Cosmos it is a chance that must be taken, with a view to protecting their six-point cushion above the play-off threshold. Faetano, looking at that same line from the opposite side, are two points adrift. Tuesday night’s appointment at the Multieventi will pit Juvenes-Dogana against Murata. Both come into it on the back of a losing streak: two defeats for the Serravalle club, four for the Bianconeri. In particular, the narrow loss to Cosmos represented a missed opportunity for Murata to open up a gap over thirteenth place – and a single-point advantage over that position offers little security. Juvenes-Dogana, the only side in the top half of the table to have already had their rest round, have lost ground on the group lurking in the shadow of Folgore and Fiorentino after defeats to direct rivals Virtus and La Fiorita. Zonzini’s team are determined to restart from the clash with Murata, on Tuesday evening at 21:30. Here is the full programme for the 22nd matchday of the Campionato Sammarinese di futsal:
