Futsal: Fiorentino halt Folgore’s perfect run, but the leaders stay top
Folgore will not complete a perfect league campaign. Fiorentino hand Spada’s team their first draw of the season, although there is plenty of consolation: top spot in Group A, probably never truly in doubt, was made mathematically certain last night. If anything, the 1-1 salvaged at the death by the reigning champions against the side that up to that point had won every game this season can be read as a message to themselves and the other title contenders: this juggernaut can be stopped. That said, all this must be seen in the light of the “temperature” at the tail end of the regular season: in Group A, everything that really mattered had been settled for some time, and the big match between Giallorossoneri and Rossoblù was worth more as mutual scouting with a view to what the fixture list will offer from next week, again at the Fiorentino ground, which hosted last night’s clash: the Titano Futsal Cup play-offs first, followed immediately by the league play-offs.
In any case, nobody wanted to leave empty-handed yesterday. And nobody did: Moretti restored parity with 1' left on the clock after Folgore had broken the deadlock at the end of the first half through Chezzi. The Falciano side thus preserve their three-point lead in the table, more than enough to clinch top spot in the group ahead of time, given that Fiorentino have only one more game to play before the post season and trail their rivals in the head-to-head record. In the opening game of the evening, Domagnano comfortably beat San Giovanni, banking three points that extend the Wolves’ positive streak but leave their position in the standings unchanged: third place was already guaranteed after the previous round, while second is now mathematically out of reach. It was the Borgo Maggiore side who opened the scoring: on 18' Camilloni made it 1-0, a lead that lasted only a few minutes, the time it took Franciosi to notch his ninth goal of the season. Before half-time, Mussoni’s men completed the turnaround through Baldelli; then, right at the start of the second half, Mularoni’s own goal further paved the way for Mussoni’s players, who went on to add to the scoresheet through Piscaglia and twice through Cecchini. Between Cecchini’s two goals came San Giovanni’s second, scored by Macina, not enough to change the outcome of a match that brings the Rossoneri a second consecutive defeat and the risk of being overtaken for fourth place by one of Libertas or Juvenes-Dogana.
The former were idle, while the latter took maximum points against Cailungo, drawing level with the Granata in the standings and moving within two points of San Giovanni. The Rossoverdi only found the net at the very end, from a 10-metre free-kick and with the horse already well out of the stable: by that stage of the game, Juvenes were 7-0 up, thanks to braces from Giardi and Borasco, single goals from Bacciocchi and Zonzini, and a Giovagnoli own goal. For Cailungo, the consolation goal was scored by Moroni.
