Futsal: potential pitfalls awaiting the leading pack

The tenth matchday of the 2023-2024 Campionato Sammarinese di futsal will be a real acid test for Juvenes-Dogana, Murata and Domagnano, as they will face – respectively – Tre Fiori, Fiorentino and Folgore. These matches will show whether the "outsiders" are capable of making that crucial step up in quality which would allow them to fight for something important. La Fiorita could benefit, as on paper they face a more manageable opponent than their direct rivals. Tre Fiori-Juvenes-Dogana will be the fixture that opens the evening at the Dogana court. The Gialloblù have recorded five wins in five matches, earning them a provisional third place in the table, three points behind the Fiorentino/La Fiorita duo, so every win could prove vital. With 14 points from eight games played, Levani’s boys sit in mid-table thanks to four wins, two draws and two defeats. The side from the Castello di Serravalle will do everything they can to put a spoke in the wheel of their more highly fancied opponents. League leaders La Fiorita, as mentioned, will face bottom side Cailungo on the Fiorentino artificial surface. The Gialloblù cannot afford a misstep because, should Fiorentino fail to win their tough match against Murata, La Fiorita could move clear at the top of the standings. Galli’s men have posted only wins since the K.O. suffered on the opening day at the hands of Tre Fiori. In last place on 3 points are the side from the Castello di Borgo Maggiore, still searching for their identity and coming off five straight defeats, the latest a 14-0 loss to the other current leaders, Fiorentino. Coincidence has it that the Rossoblù will be playing at the same time in Acquaviva, where they will take on a troublesome Murata, a team with everything it takes to trip up the leaders. The defending champions, fresh from a big win over Cailungo, are still on maximum points with eight victories and sit joint top with La Fiorita, with a game in hand. The Bianconeri too are coming off a resounding 12-2 win over San Giovanni and are fifth in the table on 15 points, level with Domagnano and Virtus. Virtus will take to the court in the second match of the evening in Dogana, where they will meet Libertas. The team from the Castello di Acquaviva have a fine opportunity to pull away from Murata and Domagnano in the standings, as they face, on paper, a softer opponent than their rivals. The Neroverdi go into the game riding a wave of confidence after their fine victory over Tre Penne in the last round. Penserini’s men are also enjoying a good spell, having recorded a win over Cosmos and an honourable defeat against the higher-ranked Juvenes-Dogana. The Granata need to find consistency in their results if they are to free themselves from the lower reaches of the table. On paper, the most hard-fought match of the day will be Domagnano-Folgore, to be played in Acquaviva at 21:45. The Wolves are one of the form teams of the moment and arrive at the appointment on the back of four consecutive victories. However, the Giallorossi have picked up those wins against sides clearly within their reach, and tomorrow they will be asked to repeat themselves against runners-up Folgore. The team from the Castello di Serravalle are coming off a clear 12-0 victory over Faetano, which restored some confidence after the defeat to La Fiorita. The Sammarinese Super Cup holders are currently fourth in the table on 19 points. Following La Fiorita-Cailungo, the Fiorentino surface will host San Giovanni-Tre Penne. In this match the favourites on paper are the side from Città. Ghiotti’s boys are currently in mid-table and, should they win tomorrow, they will have a chance to overtake Juvenes-Dogana and catch the Folgore/Murata/Virtus trio. The Rossoneri, bottom of the table alongside Cailungo, are coming off two heavy defeats – against Murata and La Fiorita respectively – in which they conceded a total of 23 goals. Wednesday night’s late fixture, the only indoor clash of the tenth round, will see Pennarossa and Cosmos face off in another match that on paper looks fairly balanced. The team from the Castello di Chiesanuova are having an up-and-down season, with three wins and five defeats, but remain comfortably clear of the danger zone. The same cannot be said for the Gialloverdi, who sit third from bottom alongside Faetano and Libertas. Muccioli’s men will nevertheless go all out for a big result, also looking to take advantage of Faetano’s rest day. Both sides will have a player suspended: Mariotti for Pennarossa, who will be back next round, and Zanotti for the team from the Castello di Serravalle, banned last time out due to an accumulation of yellow cards.
