Futsal: it’s Fiorentino v Folgore night
There is no let-up in the San Marino Futsal Championship. The 20th matchday – the third in the space of a week – is scheduled entirely for tomorrow evening, and it starts with a true classic. It is indeed Fiorentino v Folgore night, two absolute protagonists of the San Marino futsal scene in recent years. The Rossoblu, reigning champions, are looking down on everyone from the top and already boast a significant cushion (+10) over Zonzini’s side. Their campaign is virtually perfect, with 18 wins from 18 games. Behind them, however, the Giallorossoneri – unbeaten since 20 November – are certainly not standing still and have gone back to racking up points and goals. A real battle is therefore expected in Fiorentino (kick-off at 20:15), with the Rossoblu having edged the reverse fixture by just one goal. It will certainly not be the last clash of the season between two sides who, in all likelihood, will also meet in the play-offs.
Behind the leading pair sit La Fiorita: the Gialloblu, currently third and five points adrift of Folgore, will take to the court in Acquaviva (21:45) against a Faetano side in full crisis (bottom of the table together with San Giovanni on 4 points). However, the Montegiardino club must also watch their backs from Murata, fourth and only one point behind. The Bianconeri, after a good performance against Folgore in which they lost only narrowly, now face Juvenes-Dogana. The Serravalle outfit have won four of their last five and want to join the race for fourth place – currently occupied by Murata – which grants direct access to the play-offs without going through the preliminary play-off round.
There is also a real scrap in the upper-mid table, with four teams separated by just four points. In this context, Tre Fiori and Virtus are both hunting for more points to climb the standings and move ever higher. The Gialloblu – currently fifth, one point behind Murata – will take to the Multieventi parquet at 21:45 against a San Giovanni side who have not picked up a point since mid-November. On paper, Virtus have a relatively favourable fixture (sixth with 35 points), facing Pennarossa at 21:45 in Acquaviva. Despite the Neroverdi’s fluctuating form, this is not at all a positive period for the Biancorossi (four defeats in their last five). Casadei’s side, however, are currently among the eight teams (from fifth to twelfth place) who would contest the play-offs for a spot in the final phase.
Without a win in three rounds, Domagnano are targeting all three points in their clash in Dogana against Libertas (20:15). The Giallorossi are coming off an excellent draw with La Fiorita, while the Granata ended their winless run last Thursday with a 2-1 success over Tre Penne. At the same time, Cosmos and Tre Penne will also do battle in Acquaviva. The Gialloverdi from Serravalle are not enjoying a great spell (their last win dates back to 10 January) but will be looking for precious points to stay in the play-off positions. The club from Città are sailing in relatively calm waters – currently ninth and 11 points clear of 13th place – despite just one victory in their last five.
