Futsal: Folgore edge past Faetano

Folgore claim the final fixture of Matchday 5 in the San Marino Futsal Championship, beating Faetano 1-0 in last night’s encounter at the Acquaviva sports hall. Three precious points for the Giallorossoneri, who thanks to this win climb several places in the table, moving up to seventh, just ahead of the Gialloblù, now eighth.

The match opens up after just two minutes: captain Ercolani produces a brilliant solo run down the left flank, shifting the ball and striking powerfully towards the far post. On the end of it is Semproli, who only has to guide the ball into the net to put Folgore in front. The early lead does not dampen the spectacle, with both teams serving up a balanced, hard-fought contest, marked by chances at both ends. In the first half it is the woodwork that denies the joy of a goal: Bacciocchi hits the frame for Folgore, while Menghi comes close to an equaliser for Faetano.

After the restart Folgore are again dangerous, with Bucci rattling the crossbar from close range, going inches away from doubling the lead and making Rastelli’s goal shake. Faetano try to react, but the Gialloblù cannot find a way through to level the score. Folgore thus hold onto their narrow advantage until the final whistle, taking home three vital points for their league position.
