Futsal: Murata aiming to capitalise on La Fiorita-Virtus head-to-head to pull away
Taking advantage of Pennarossa’s enforced break and the direct clash between La Fiorita and Virtus, Murata are hunting for crucial points in the race for the top spots in the regular season. Spada’s team face the Città derby against Tre Penne, who come into it off a win over Libertas after two defeats on the bounce. Murata – at present – are the toughest test for any side and, with a competitive mindset, Penserini’s boys will want to approach the match that tomorrow evening at 20:15 will open the programme in Fiorentino. After that it will be Fiorentino-Folgore’s turn: a pairing that over the last three years has been a fixture in every final, but which, after the summer exodus, has had its ambitions significantly scaled down. Hovering in mid-table, they will face off at 21:45.
There are also two fixtures scheduled on the Dogana artificial pitch: Faetano-Domagnano (20:15) and Juvenes-Dogana-Cosmos (21:45). In particular, it is the local derby in the Castello di Serravalle that is drawing interest: the Gialloverdi sit eighth in the standings, while Juvenes-Dogana are four points and three places further back. In the previous head-to-head between Corbelli’s and Gasperoni’s sides, the odds lean heavily towards Domagnano. After the defeat against La Fiorita, the Wolves will want to respond with a convincing performance and a winning outcome.
There is outdoor action in Domagnano as well, where another derby – Libertas v San Giovanni – will mark the last official outing in 2024 for the two Borgo Maggiore clubs. Propping up the table in the bottom two positions, with twenty-one defeats and a draw between them (earned by the Rossoneri), they will be looking to step back from the edge of the precipice – perhaps by pushing their current opponents closer to it. Ninety minutes after the kick-off of Libertas-San Giovanni, it will be time for the big match between La Fiorita and Virtus (21:45). Currently separated by three points and both having already served their rest day, they will face each other to establish the balance of power behind Murata. As things stand, the Gialloblù from Montegiardino are virtually the first pursuers of the Bianconeri: to confirm that status outright, they will need a win tomorrow – which would send Traviglia’s team into second place on their own. For Virtus, seven points off the summit, a potential defeat would have consequences in the table that cannot be underestimated.
Rounding off the final matchday of the calendar year will be the indoor clash between Tre Fiori and Cailungo. Although on paper Pollini’s side are favourites, it should be noted that Cailungo are only four points behind the Gialloblù. A win for Venerucci’s men would not only allow them to close the gap on the teams currently above them in the standings, but also to take a major step towards securing a place in the upcoming play-offs. At present, only Faetano appear to pose a serious threat to the position currently occupied by Cailungo.
