Futsal: Pennarossa and Virtus out to keep pace with Murata

The ninth matchday of the Campionato Sammarinese di futsal is coming up, with leaders Murata showing no intention whatsoever of slowing down after sweeping aside Virtus in last round’s top-of-the-table clash. Together with Pennarossa and La Fiorita, the Neroverdi are currently the main contenders for the title alongside Massimiliano Spada’s team. This round of fixtures will also give a first indication as to whether Tre Penne and Domagnano can be counted among the challengers. Gasperoni’s Wolves face Pennarossa, second in the table, on the Domagnano artificial pitch at 21:45 tomorrow. The Giallorossi are chasing a move level on 19 points and a big win that would significantly tighten up the leading pack. Pennarossa are enjoying a fine run of form and will try to hand a bitter evening to their next opponents, who are coming off their rest round. On the same pitch, but at 20:15, Faetano and Juvenes-Dogana will square off. On paper it’s a chance for Levani’s side to get back on track after a spell of tough fixtures. Faetano, for their part, are looking for a positive result after the draw with Cailungo a few weeks ago – the only point they have picked up so far. In Dogana, La Fiorita look for confirmation against bottom side Libertas. After an excellent display in the Titano Futsal Cup – despite the narrow defeat at the buzzer against powerhouse Murata – the Gialloblù are targeting a third consecutive league win, possibly capitalising on any slip by Pennarossa and Virtus to climb one or more places. The Granata are in full-blown results crisis, still stuck on zero points after seven matches played. The second fixture scheduled in Dogana is Tre Penne-Virtus. It promises to be an intriguing encounter between the fifth- and third-placed sides. The club from Città have lost only twice so far, to La Fiorita and Folgore. Penserini’s men want to shake off the label of a team that “beats the small sides but struggles with the big ones” by tripping up or at least slowing one of the most fancied title contenders. Leaders Murata travel to Fiorentino to face Cailungo. On paper it is a match that leans heavily towards the Bianconeri, despite the absence of Busignani with a muscle injury that will sideline him for a few weeks. Kick-off is set for 21:45, by which time the Castello di Fiorentino derby – played at the stadium of the same name – will already be in the books. In past seasons this fixture often decided top spot or play-off places; today it pits the seventh against the twelfth in the group. Tre Fiori have stemmed their run of poor results thanks to a big win over Libertas, while Fiorentino – after a difficult start to the campaign – have strung together two wins in a row, albeit against sides currently in the lower reaches of the table. There is also a derby feel in Serravalle, where the doors of the Multieventi open for Cosmos v Folgore. Separated by just a single point in the standings, they sit right on the edge of the left-hand column, currently rounded out by Zonzini’s team. The San Marino runners-up have no alternative but victory if they are to avoid losing ground on the pack ahead of them. Cosmos, meanwhile, will try to build on the three wins over Libertas, San Giovanni and Cailungo which currently make up their entire points haul, following four straight defeats at the start of the season. Kick-off is scheduled for 21:45. Here is the schedule for Matchday 9 of the 2024-25 Campionato Sammarinese di futsal: Click here for the updated table
