Futsal: Pennarossa on match point ahead of Scudetto play-offs

There is only one verdict still to be delivered in the 2021-22 San Marino Futsal Championship regular season. It concerns the sixth team that will take part in the Scudetto play-offs. With the Group A line-up already confirmed and the top two positions in Group B decided, Pennarossa and Virtus are battling for the remaining chance to join Folgore, Fiorentino, Domagnano, Tre Fiori and La Fiorita in the post-season. In this respect, the club from Chiesanuova is literally one step away from its objective. As early as tomorrow evening, in their penultimate outing, Mattia Casadei’s side could clinch qualification. Their four-point lead over Virtus means the Biancorossi need only to beat Cosmos in the first game in Fiorentino to be mathematically sure. Should things not go as hoped, it would still be enough for Virtus – who face Tre Fiori at 21:45 on the same court – to fail to win their match. In fact, even a draw for the Neroverdi would rule Pollini’s team out of the title race. In the event of a tie on points, the head-to-head record would favour Pennarossa. The other four fixtures on the schedule will be of purely statistical value, serving the five teams already certain of a play-off spot to fine-tune their preparations for the post-season. That will not involve San Giovanni and Libertas, who meet in a derby on the Acquaviva artificial pitch (20:15), both aiming to secure fourth place in Group A. The same target is in the sights of Juvenes-Dogana in their last two games before the Titano Futsal Cup play-offs, even if the Serravalle local derby against Folgore does not appear to be the most favourable match in which to pick up points (Dogana, 21:45). La Fiorita and Faetano do not belong to the same Castello, but the match is always felt like – if not more than – a derby. The two yellow-and-blues will face off tomorrow in Dogana (20:15), while Fiorentino-Domagnano – scheduled as the late kick-off in Acquaviva (21:45) – offers a preview of the play-offs from which Michelotti’s and Mussoni’s teams will be looking to draw positive indications and answers with a view to the post-season. For the Rossoblù, it will also be their last game of the regular season, as they are due to sit out on 2 May.
