Futsal: Ruthless La Fiorita, Folgore swept aside 7-1

Mission accomplished for La Fiorita, the last side to take to the court – together with Folgore – on Matchday 14 of the Campionato Sammarinese di futsal. At stake for the Gialloblù was second place, temporarily occupied by Pennarossa. Fabio Traviglia’s team responded in emphatic fashion and, while the result moves the Montegiardino club to within one point of the summit, the manner of it serves as a warning to their closest rivals. On the Multieventi court, it was former Folgore players Pellegrini and Matteo Chezzi who broke the deadlock, firing La Fiorita into a two-goal lead well before the 10-minute mark. By half-time the scoreline read 4-0, courtesy of strikes from Meloni and Simone Chezzi. After the restart, Baldelli’s brace in the dying seconds added to Matteo Chezzi’s second goal of the evening. On the Folgore side, Ballabene’s finish was the classic consolation goal, arriving three minutes from the end of the 60' when La Fiorita had already secured their five-goal cushion. In less than a week the final fixture of the first half of the season will be played, which – barring any major upsets – should confirm the balance of power just expressed in the upper reaches of the table. Three teams are separated by as many points at the top, with Virtus slightly adrift. Domagnano and Tre Penne will meet in five days’ time with fifth place on the line. Then come all the others, with San Giovanni and Libertas dangerously trailing and Faetano back in the hunt for the postseason – although they now face Murata, the virtual winter champions.
