Futsal Super Cup: Folgore celebrate, no treble for Fiorentino

La Folgore si prende la Supercoppa sammarinese di futsal 2023 e "rovina" il possibile triplete per il Fiorentino. La squadra di Falciano, con in panchina il neo tecnico Claudio Zonzini, si riscatta così delle ultime due finali – campionato e coppa – andate proprio ai rossoblu di Matteo Michelotti. In the now familiar setting and in front of the usual crowd on the Multieventi Sport Domus court in Serravalle, the opening stages belong to a lively Folgore side, who go close to breaking the deadlock on more than one occasion. Protti is alert from the start and denies both Bernardi and Pellegrini. Another good chance for the Falciano side comes on 23 minutes, when Pellegrini wins a great ball and, once into the area, looks to square for the unmarked Bernardi, but the pass towards the Folgore captain is overhit and runs out of play. Fiorentino try to shake themselves and shortly afterwards could even have taken the lead, but Geri pulls off a superb save to keep out Andrea Ercolani’s close-range effort. The sides go in at the break goalless, with Folgore having had the better of it against a Fiorentino team who, after a difficult start, begin to grow into the game. At the start of the second half it is in fact Andrea Ercolani who tries his luck with a powerful right-footed effort, but again Geri says no. As the minutes tick by, the tension rises and the players on court do not hold back in the challenges. Andrea Ercolani pays the price when, after a heavy collision with Massimiliano Bernardi, he also sees a yellow card brandished in his direction. The number ten in red and blue is again in the thick of the action on 44 minutes, when, after a pass from Busignani, he turns sharply and shoots first time towards Geri’s goal, only to hit the outside of the post. Folgore respond with a fine free-kick from Matteo Chezzi, which Protti does well to turn behind for a corner. It is the prelude to the goal that breaks the deadlock: after a Fiorentino free-kick, Chezzi wins a challenge with Busignani, Bernardi launches a rapid counter-attack for Zonzini’s men and, once he reaches the byline, fires the ball across for Michele Ercolani, who gets the faintest of touches to guide it into the net on 47 minutes. Moments later Folgore could double their lead, but Protti once more denies Bernardi and his team-mates. Fiorentino throw themselves forward again and, on 53 minutes, find the equaliser: Andrea Ercolani drives forward and releases Luca Zafferani on the left, who cuts inside and finds a precise diagonal finish that beats Geri for 1-1. Folgore’s response is immediate and within seconds they are back in front: Chezzi exchanges passes with Pellegrini and the ensuing ricochet falls kindly for Massimiliano Bernardi, who strikes first time past Protti to make it 2-1. In the closing minutes Michelotti plays the flying goalkeeper card with Cevoli: the extra outfield player is used well by the rossoblu, with Andrea Ercolani unleashing a powerful right-footed strike that crashes off the crossbar, inches away from 2-2. Thirty seconds from the 60-minute mark, Busignani also tests his luck with a powerful effort from distance, but Geri produces another excellent save, tipping the ball behind for a corner and rescuing his side. Fiorentino pile on the pressure, Folgore are on the ropes but withstand the onslaught. Worth noting is Busignani’s fine act of sportsmanship in the dying seconds when Pellegrini goes down injured: the San Marino striker prefers to put the ball out of play rather than exploit the numerical advantage, despite his team trailing. Michelotti’s side push until the very end, but Geri and his team hold firm until the final whistle. The celebrations can begin for Zonzini’s side, who claim the 2023 Super Cup at the first attempt and deliver a second straight trophy to the giallorossoneri after last year’s triumph.
