Futsal Super Cup: Stunning Folgore, 5-0 against Tre Fiori and third title of 2022

It is a Folgore that makes you rub your eyes which launches into the 2022-23 San Marino futsal season – kicking off on a cool evening in Fiorentino with the Super Cup up for grabs. Challenging them are Tre Fiori, with fewer training sessions in their legs than a side fresh from a summer of extra shifts in the UEFA Futsal Champions League, and with fewer options as well – due to injuries and suspensions. In the end, though, it is always about those who are on the pitch. After an early exchange of blows between Gasperoni and Chezzi, comes Massimiliano Bernardi’s goal: a quick double step in tight space and a left-footed low diagonal that leaves Bizzocchi no chance. It’s the 6th minute and Folgore take control of the match, first on the scoreboard and then in general play. Mariotti tries to spark Tre Fiori into life on 14 minutes, but Folgore douse the flames with a moment of magic from Pellegrini: shoulder-to-shoulder duels to burst through, then a delightful dink over Bizzocchi for the second goal on 16 minutes. At the end of the half Boschi finds a reactive Geri blocking his way, while a set-piece from the edge of the penalty area by Bernardi fails to find the net. At the start of the second half, Pellegrini comes out with unprecedented intensity: first he almost scores a standing-ovation goal in combination with Bernardi, then he wins a penalty out of nothing. Physically unstoppable, his pivot foot forces Cappelli to gamble and Lanuti to blow the whistle. Pellegrini himself is ice-cool from the spot and the second half opens up downhill for Folgore. Bernardi tries his luck from distance, while Boschi keeps running into an alert Geri. In Falciano’s rotation, Rossi also gets minutes and comes close to scoring in the 47th minute. Clinical, instead, is Chezzi two minutes later: he wins the ball back in midfield and races away to beat Bizzocchi one-on-one. Before the end, a right-footed effort from Giardi – after a short corner – sneaks into the far corner via a deflection, sealing the 5-0 scoreline in Folgore’s favour. A fully deserved victory for the all-conquering champions, who changed shape and personnel over the summer without losing any of their competitiveness. Tre Fiori, for their part, have plenty of mitigating factors from tonight’s clash, from which Alex Bugli intends to build a season that will see the Gialloblù as main protagonists. All this in the very season in which the Campionato and Titano Futsal Cup change format and embrace all fifteen clubs affiliated to the FSGC.
