Futsal: Tre Penne take the late fixture and fifth place

The head-to-head between Tre Penne and Domagnano, with fifth place at the halfway mark up for grabs, proved as hard-fought as expected. The light blue-and-whites came out on top, overtaking the Wolves in the table and closing out the first half of the season in the highest position among those not granting direct access to the quarter-finals. The game at the Acquaviva gym opened up very late. Casadei preserved the 0-0 with a save on a long-range effort from Faetanini, while his opposite number Muraccini did likewise on Gamba’s ambitious attempt. Shortly afterwards, the Domagnano goalkeeper also had to deal with friendly fire (Gatti coming perilously close to an own goal) and then stuck out a crucial leg to keep out Beinat’s left-footed strike, unleashed after a fine one-two with Contato. Domagnano replied with Bollini’s right-footed effort that shaved the post, and then with a quick counter-attack that saw Menghi, well picked out by Faetanini, swivel and shoot from close range: the ball drifted just wide. Tre Penne threatened Muraccini again through Sabatino, left all alone in the box but denied by a great save from the Giallorossi keeper. The wait for the Tre Penne pivot, however, would be short. Domagnano mismanaged a corner in their favour and Gamba broke away at pace before squaring for Sabatino, who slid in to beat the onrushing Muraccini to the ball. It came virtually at the end of the first half. The second period began with Sabatino winning the ball high up the court and flashing a diagonal right-footed effort just wide. Then, from a high thrown-in, Beinat turned in the area and struck the post. The Wolves’ response was a left-footed attempt from Bollini that found Casadei alert at his near post. Just a few moments later, Santarini brought down Cola and collected his second yellow card of the evening. Domagnano paid for their numerical disadvantage right at the end of the power play: the defence were slow to close down Beinat, who unleashed a powerful diagonal right-footer. The Giallorossi opted to go with a flying goalkeeper, but before that Muraccini had to produce a proper goalkeeper’s save on Ercolani, who, after intercepting high, burst through into a perfect shooting position only to be thwarted by the No. 33. The blue bib went to Villa, who found Casadei’s hands rather than Dolcini at the far post; the Tre Penne keeper immediately launched Contato, who set up Cola with an open goal, but his finish struck the post. Domagnano continued to attack with five men in the opposition half, but their goal to halve the deficit came a little too late. It was Muraccini himself who latched onto Zonzini’s pass and beat fellow keeper Casadei with a touch at the near post. But the first minute of stoppage time was already under way. From there, Tre Penne only needed controlled possession to see out the win and complete the overtake. Here is the full picture from Matchday 15 of the league: Click here for the updated standings
