Futsal: Virtus go top after a superb second half against Cosmos

The first of the two Monday-night fixtures on Matchday 3 of the 2025-26 Campionato Sammarinese di futsal goes Virtus and coach Michelotti’s way. The Neroverdi draw level with Murata and La Fiorita at the top on maximum points, a target Tre Penne will also be hoping to reach – they play the final match of the round this evening at the Multieventi against Fiorentino (kick-off 22:00).

The first half between Cosmos and Virtus is evenly balanced, lit up by a quick-fire exchange of goals around the 5th minute: Zafferani breaks the deadlock, cutting in from the right to open up a left-footed strike from a central position that gives Delvecchio no chance. A minute later, the San Marino all-rounder is involved at the other end in less positive fashion when his horizontal pass is intercepted by Guerra – ice-cool in front of Lonfernini as he restores parity. Cosmos appeal in the 12th minute for a challenge between Stolfi and Bacciocchi that is waved away; from the continuation of the move Belloni races through on Delvecchio, who wins the one-on-one. The Gialloverdi goalkeeper is to the fore again two minutes later, blocking the double attempt from Pasqualini and Stolfi. In the closing stages of the half it is Cosmos who come within centimetres of taking the lead: Delvecchio clips the ball in for the run of Colonna, who shoots across goal with his left. Only Lonfernini’s vital touch with the tip of his boot prevents the turnaround.

After the restart the quality of Michelotti’s players comes to the fore, as they go back in front as early as the 31st minute through Pasqualini, who finds the net with his left. Moments earlier, Delvecchio had produced a stunning save to deny Cevoli, free at the far post. The national-team players at Virtus’ disposal widen the gap, but only after a couple of saves by Lonfernini on Molinas. On 40 minutes Pasqualini signs his brace, picking out the far corner from a touchline restart. That is followed by two efforts against the woodwork for the Neroverdi – wearing all red yesterday – through Belloni and Dolcini, before Belloni serves up the fourth. An extraordinary goal from the national team’s all-time appearance maker, who strikes first time from his own half, catching Delvecchio off guard as he was trying to get back into position after a save with his foot in the area. A goal to rub your eyes in disbelief and one that effectively brings the curtain down on the contest, which still has room in the match report for a fine stop by Lonfernini on Cerquetti and Virtus’ cinque a zero completed by Mularoni – ice-cool as he slots through Delvecchio’s legs on the counter to register his first celebration of the season.
