Futsal Week in Poreč: Belgium too strong for the Under-19 National Team

After the 7-0 win over Estonia, Belgium confirmed their strength again against San Marino this afternoon in their opening match at the Futsal Week Winter Cup in Poreč, a tournament reserved for Under-19 national teams. Matteo Selva’s young Biancoazzurri, currently preparing for the European commitment at the end of January, held up very well against the Belgians’ technique and pace for the first half of the opening period. Then the Red Devils broke the deadlock with a powerful shot by number 9 which Rocco Mularoni, in an extreme attempt to get to the ball ahead of Al Houss, unintentionally deflected past Chiaruzzi and into his own net. The goal caused a brief wobble for the Titans, who soon after conceded Belgium’s second and third, scored by Aabdi and Al Houss. Coach Nieddu’s side kept pushing up to half-time, going in 7-0 ahead thanks to goals from Vanharen and Salah and a brace from Benssalam. At the start of the second half, another unfortunate deflection – this time by Riccardo Ercolani on Aabdi’s powerful right-footed effort – further extended Belgium’s lead, before they definitively pulled away through goals from Azghin, Al Houss, Peirsman, Aabdi, Van Cauter, Pernet, Salah and Benssalam, the last two both ending with personal hat-tricks. Tomorrow San Marino will be back on court at 15:30 against Estonia.
