High-stakes showdown: Tre Fiori v La Fiorita with top spot in the BKN301 Championship on the line

Three weeks on, and after the Christmas break, the BKN301 San Marino Championship is back to fire up San Marino’s sporting weekends, immediately serving up a match that could prove decisive in the title race. Tre Fiori-La Fiorita, tomorrow in Montecchio (3:00 p.m.), will in fact have top spot in the table at stake: the Montegiardino club, fresh from major changes at both board and team level, will face Tre Fiori coached by their former player Andy Selva. Gjurchinoski and his team-mates, should they win, would draw level with the reigning champions on 31 points, but with a game in hand. La Fiorita will in fact sit out next week’s round of fixtures, which marks the final matchday of the first half of the season. It will be a baptism of fire for Thomas Manfredini, making his absolute debut as a head coach, who could celebrate by claiming the – purely symbolic – title of winter champions if his side get the better of Tre Fiori. La Fiorita will definitely be without Sammarinese players Lunadei and Pancotti, both suspended. The match will also be closely watched by Cosmos, Virtus and Tre Penne, the other title contenders together with the aforementioned Gialloblù. Berardi’s Gialloverdi are set for a derby with Folgore on the artificial pitch at the Ezio Conti in Dogana (tomorrow, 3:00 p.m.). The Falciano club were among the in-form sides before the break. Cosmos, on the other hand, with two draws in their last three outings, have temporarily slipped to third place. At the same time, at the Federico Crescentini in Fiorentino, Virtus must clear the San Giovanni hurdle to keep pace with those ahead and potentially close the gap to the summit – depending on La Fiorita. Before the break, Tognacci’s men held the reigning champions to a 2-2 draw, being pegged back twice. In short, it is a far from straightforward test for Virtus, who will also be without the suspended Aron Giacomoni. There will also be action in Domagnano tomorrow (3:00 p.m.), where Cailungo and Fiorentino meet with the aim of getting back into the group of twelve sides that will reach the post-season with an eye on the Europa Conference League. While top spot at the end of the regular season will secure the title and a place in the Champions League qualifying rounds for the leaders, the teams finishing between second and thirteenth will face off to decide who earns a ticket for the youngest of UEFA’s club competitions. As things stand, Fiorentino would miss out due to a worse goal difference than Domagnano – with whom they drew their head-to-head. Cailungo, by contrast, currently sit just one point above Malandri’s side and would make the cut. That alone underlines how important this clash is, both in the short term and in terms of the longer-term shape of the table. The Rossoverdi will also have to cope without Juri Biordi for a lengthy spell: the former Domagnano man will miss the next three league matches after the heavy ban handed down by the sporting judge following the final round of 2022. The centre-back will be available again for Matchday 17, scheduled for next 28 January, when Cailungo will take on Tre Penne. On Sunday’s card, Domagnano and Murata are also chasing valuable points with a view to the post-season. The Bianconeri, who will face an in-form Libertas (Domagnano, 3:00 p.m.), are the only team yet to draw a league match this season. Unfortunately for the side recently entrusted to a coach of the calibre of Giuseppe Angelini, their two victories so far have been outweighed by ten defeats, leaving Murata at the foot of the table as the halfway point of the season approaches. The Bianconeri will be without the suspended Costantini, while on the Granata side Floriano Sperindio will have to do without two starting defenders in Moretti and Costa – both also suspended by the sporting judge. A similar balance of power, at least on paper judging by the standings after thirteen rounds, can be seen in the clash between Faetano and Domagnano. Girolomoni’s men, sixth in the table despite two defeats in their last three games, take on the Giallorossi, who have so far won just once in the league. That game is scheduled for Sunday in Montecchio (3:00 p.m.). Dulcis in fundo, the showdown between Pennarossa and Tre Penne. The Biancorossi, after a blistering start to the season, have stalled in mid-table: the twelve points collected to date offer little comfort to Massimo Gori’s side – he took over during the campaign from Farabegoli – who sit just three points above the second-from-bottom spot. Opposite them will be a tough opponent with great technical quality in Stefano Ceci’s Tre Penne, who are eager to quickly put behind them the two consecutive defeats to Cosmos and Folgore that closed out the calendar year and cost the Città club precious points in the title race. The Biancazzurri know they cannot afford missteps, finding themselves seven points off the top, even though they have played one game fewer than the current leaders. Fierce competition, with Tre Fiori, Cosmos and Virtus also ahead of – albeit by a narrow margin – Gai and his team-mates, means Tre Penne must start on the front foot against opponents they already faced in the Round of 16 of the BKN301 Coppa Titano. All matches will be available to watch free of charge, live and with commentary from the stadiums on TITANI.TV. To do so, simply complete registration on the platform of the same name and select the match or matches you wish to watch.
