League: Cosmos and Faetano win in advance

There are no surprises in Montecchio, where Cosmos sweep aside Pennarossa with a resounding 6-2 win. The Gialloverdi take the lead in the second minute through a header from Prandelli, who gets the better of the defenders in the box on Pastorelli’s corner. The left-sided player then doubles the advantage, making the most of Sapori’s solo run. There is also glory for the great former player Ben Kacem, who stamps his mark with a brace in the space of ten minutes: a delightful lob beats Barbieri on 13 minutes, while midway through the half he only has to tap home Prandelli’s assist. After the break Berardi’s men take their foot off the gas. Even so, chances continue to come – and on the hour mark Di Stasio is in the right place to turn in the rebound after Prandelli’s effort had come back off the bar. In the closing stages Pennarossa at least have the satisfaction of reaching double figures for goals scored this season. First Strologo and then Montalti reduce the deficit to 5-2. The Pennarossa captain puts through his own net after the ball ricochets off Barbieri’s woodwork and onto him. The clash in Acquaviva between Faetano and San Marino Academy is more evenly balanced. The deadlock is broken in favour of the Gialloblù on 13 minutes when Terenzi, in a borderline position, makes the most of Acquarelli’s long ball to go through on Battistini and beat him with a precise angled finish. Cecchetti’s young Biancazzurri are fully in the game, though, and they peg Faetano back just after the half-hour mark through captain D'Addario. Clean through on Manzaroli, he needs two attempts to beat the San Marino goalkeeper – outstanding on the first effort. Before the interval, a huge chance falls to Faetano. Girolomoni’s men are awarded a penalty: with Brisigotti on the bench, Capriotti takes on responsibility from the spot. The forward chooses a soft strike, which Battistini reads perfectly as he saves his second penalty of the league campaign. The Faetano striker makes amends after the restart, effectively deciding the outcome of the match. First, on 59 minutes, with a superb chip over Battistini, helped by the mistake of a team-mate trying to intervene. Then, deep into stoppage time, by providing Gueye with the assist for the final 3-1, which allows the Gialloblù to leapfrog today’s opponents in the table.
