League: Fiorentino come from behind to beat Cosmos and move up to third place
Fiorentino claim third place thanks to a 2-1 comeback win over Cosmos. In the top-of-the-table clash of Matchday 14 – the last round of the 2024 League campaign – Tarini’s Rossoblu overturn the deficit and, with this victory, leapfrog Lepri’s Gialloverdi in the standings. As soon as the match kicks off it is former Cosmos man Ben Kacem who tries to break the deadlock, but his powerful left-footed effort finishes off target. The first half is evenly balanced and the two sides go into the break at 0-0. At the start of the second half (50') however, it is Cosmos who take the lead through Marcello Mularoni, who times his run well, latches onto a Grassi cross from the left and steers the ball into the net for his first goal of the season. Fiorentino, though, show they are a top side and find the equaliser on 62 minutes: a cross from Bara on the left picks out Nicolò Chiaruzzi, quick to connect near the edge of the six-yard box and beat Righini. It is no misprint, as Cosmos were actually forced to start Righini in goal due to injuries to keepers Celato and Semprini. However, the Gialloblu outfield player does not make his team-mates regret the choice, because in the 82nd minute he is decisive, saving with his foot to deny another point-blank attempt from Chiaruzzi. But in the 86th minute Fiorentino finally complete the turnaround: Abouzziane surges down the left at his usual pace and shoots at Righini, who gets a touch but cannot hold it; Omar Diop pounces on the rebound and fires home, sending the Rossoblu fans into raptures. The finale at the "Crescentini" is magnificent. First Ben Kacem fails to hit the target, then Omar Diop once again goes within a whisker of his brace right on ninety minutes. On the subsequent counter-attack Ben Kacem remains his side’s biggest threat as his left-footed effort crashes against the post and stays out by a matter of centimetres. Cosmos push right to the end but have to bow to Fiorentino’s comeback win: another victory (four in the last five) that takes them up to third place on 29 points, six off the summit.
The only Sunday draw comes between Domagnano and San Giovanni. In Montecchio, Rossi’s side start better, with Angelini hitting the outside of the post early on (9'). Midway through the half the net ripples for Domagnano through Ferraro, but the assistant referee halts play for offside. Despite the Giallorossi looking the more dangerous side, it is San Giovanni who break the deadlock: a long ball from Robba finds Augusto Garcia Rufer, who controls and then unleashes a left-footed strike from distance, catching Colonna off guard. After the restart the match becomes tense, and in the 63rd minute Merendino pays the price and is sent off by Delvecchio after a few flare-ups in the box. Domagnano hold firm, above all when Colonna saves brilliantly from Aprea (77'). In the 86th minute the Giallorossi’s efforts are rewarded: Amati wins the ball back in the final third and then delivers an excellent cross into the middle, where Perazzini arrives to strike it first time and beat Starna for the final 1-1 scoreline.
A clear-cut win instead for Cailungo over Pennarossa: in Domagnano, Sarti’s side run out 4-0 winners, sealing their second victory in the last three. The Rossoverdi take the lead midway through the first half: Barbieri makes a mess of what should be a routine take, letting the ball slip from his grasp, and Colagiovanni takes full advantage, finishing into an unguarded goal from the corner of the six-yard box. The second comes right at the start of the second half: from the three-quarter area Gori plays a ball in behind, the Pennarossa defence clear but not far enough, and the ball falls to Labas – brought on at half-time – who strikes superbly from distance with his right foot, finding a perfect trajectory that gives Barbieri no chance. Dolci’s side try to respond but cannot really trouble Sarti’s backline, who put the game to bed late on (86'). It is another stunning goal from the Rossoblu, again a lethal right-footed strike, this time from Kevin De Luca, who volleys home after a corner is cleared by the Biancorossi defence. In stoppage time Hirsch also gets in on the rout, skipping past a couple of players in the box before placing a precise left-footed finish into the corner. Cailungo thus run out 4-0 winners and climb off the bottom of the table, dropping Pennarossa into last place.
