League: Unstoppable Juvenes Dogana draw level with Cosmos in the table
There were three games brought forward in the special midweek round of the Campionato Sammarinese, used to make up the fixtures postponed for snow a month ago. Juvenes Dogana, away to Murata in Montecchio, needed only half a half to stamp their authority on the contest. After a miraculous intervention by Della Mura to deny Aprea on the edge of the six-yard box, Kevin Lisi broke the deadlock on 12 minutes with a right-footed effort from distance that took a deflection. There was nothing Sias could do, wrong-footed on the play and forced to pick the ball out of his net again two minutes later. This time the complicity of the Bianconeri backline was clear, to the delight of Aprea, who was presented with a simple ball on his right foot just a few steps from the goal line. On 23 minutes, Kevin Lisi signed his brace, effectively putting the game to bed: Benedetti drove through the middle and the midfielder latched onto the move, scoring from the heart of the area. It went from bad to worse for Murata, who conceded 4-0 on the half-hour from the Aprea–Nicola Sartini combination and then the fifth just a few minutes later: on that occasion it was Della Mura’s own goal – as he tried to block Amadori – that further increased the deficit. The Bianconeri changed goalkeeper at half-time: Bracconi was immediately called into action by a thunderbolt from Lisi, chasing a hat-trick. Murata showed something going forward through Tahiri and Tarik, but both were denied three times by Davide Colonna. Far trickier was his counterpart’s work on 55 minutes, when he had to come out and shut down former team-mate Comuniello one-on-one. Mancini’s men honoured the match right to the end, finding a consolation goal – and the pick of the night – through Jurgen Tahiri. The forward started with the ball at his feet from the halfway line, dancing past three opponents in succession before slotting past Colonna in a one-on-one. That was the final highlight of a game dominated from start to finish by Juvenes Dogana, who climb to 28 points in the standings – the same tally as their neighbours Cosmos.
The clash in Dogana between the aforementioned Gialloverdi and Faetano was finely balanced: early on, one chance apiece for Ambrosini and Abbadessa. The Cosmos striker managed to get a shot away after a wide free-kick, but it was blocked by a defender when he seemed certain to score. A few minutes later came Sperindio’s side’s reply: Lenzu burst down the left and pulled back for Abbadessa, who arrived on cue but shot wide from a promising position. At the other end came Galesi’s first save, showing good reflexes to keep out Gjurchinoski’s effort. Just past the half-hour mark, Ambrosini was dangerous in both boxes: paradoxically, it was Cosmos’ own goal that was most at risk as a scuffed touch from the striker forced Semprini into heroics. Up the other end, picked out by Gjurchinoski, he failed to hit the target with a header. After the restart it was all Cosmos, but Galesi stood firm against attempts from Hamati, Andretta and Gaita – the latter going close to a spectacular long-range strike. The Gialloverdi would have deserved the lead, but Faetano’s goal seemed bewitched: on 63 minutes a stunning reflex save from Galesi denied Ambrosini, while Islamaj, Hamati and Andretta all lacked precision. As a result, in the final quarter of an hour Faetano began to dream of a major upset: Semprini was decisive against Contino and Zonzini, and could only watch as Tugliani’s header flashed just over the bar. The closing stages brought a raft of chances that Cosmos failed to convert, and they will have the greater regrets over the goalless draw in Dogana. The Gialloverdi are thus caught in seventh place by Juvenes Dogana.
At the “Federico Crescentini” in Fiorentino, Tre Penne immediately took control of proceedings. After an acrobatic attempt by Badalassi that drifted wide, Giambalvo posed a threat on the counter, cutting inside to shoot across goal and force captain Migani into a save with his feet. Tre Penne saw more of the ball in the opposition’s final third, even if attempts on target were lacking. First Mosquera with a header, then Peluso with his right foot from inside the area both sent good chances over the bar. Once they had adjusted their sights, the Biancazzurri struck on the half-hour: Pieri went it alone, setting himself onto his left and drilling inside Boujir’s near post. On 37 minutes, from a corner, Ferrani was just centimetres away from doubling the lead with a header. The second half began in lively fashion, kicked off by a shot against the post from Casadio; Pieri was quickest to the rebound but could not hit the target. At the other end, Lisi showed a touch of class, wriggling free in the box to lay on a chance akin to a penalty in open play for Bastianelli – denied by a superb Mosquera block. Tre Penne missed the 2-0 on 68 minutes through the Mosquera–Badalassi combination, and almost paid for it when Bianchi’s acrobatic volley in the heart of the area failed to make the desired contact in front of Migani. That allowed Badalassi to make amends and all but seal the win: Boujir had to work to keep out Peluso’s curling right-footer, while Kamouni was off target with the tap-in. Not Badalassi, who slotted into an unguarded net to wrap things up on 80 minutes. San Giovanni tried to get back into it, earning a penalty through Lisi: from the spot Corinti went for power, but blasted over the bar. It was an eighth consecutive victory for Tre Penne, who temporarily move level with Virtus in second place.
