League: La Fiorita threat for leaders Tre Fiori

After both securing their place in the Coppa Titano final in midweek, Tre Fiori and La Fiorita meet this weekend in the headline fixture of the 26th matchday of the Campionato Sammarinese. Girolomoni’s Gialloblù, having beaten Virtus in the last round, now sit top of the table – three points clear of the Neroverdi and Tre Penne. Sunday’s big match (Montecchio, 15:00) could prove to be the last major hurdle on the road to the title for the club from Fiorentino, with five rounds remaining. La Fiorita are currently fifth, only two points off fourth place, occupied by Folgore. Also intriguing is the clash between Falciano’s Giallorossoneri and Tre Penne who, as mentioned, are still firmly in the title race. A win for Bonini’s side, combined with anything other than victory for Tre Fiori, would further boost the Biancazzurri’s chances – albeit with a more challenging run-in. The match between Tre Penne and Folgore, in addition to being broadcast on Titani.tv, will also be available on FIFA+. Virtus will also be looking to close the gap at the top, after suffering two consecutive defeats between league and cup. A rare occurrence for the Neroverdi, who have been standout performers in recent years. Bizzotto’s team face Domagnano (Sunday at 15:00 in Domagnano), who in the reverse fixture handed them their first league defeat thanks to Bonetti’s last-gasp winner (currently the league’s top scorer with 22 goals).

Rounding off Sunday’s programme, Juvenes Dogana and San Marino Academy will do battle at 15:00 in Acquaviva. Boldrini’s side’s excellent cup performance was not enough to see them through and could now result in some fatigue. Di Maio’s Titani will look to capitalise, particularly with a view to closing in on the play-off places.

Turning to tomorrow’s fixtures, there is an interesting head-to-head with a view to the post-season between San Giovanni and Faetano (Montecchio, 15:00). The Rossoneri currently occupy eleventh place – the last position granting access to the play-offs – while only a win will do for the Gialloblù if they are to keep their hopes alive. A balanced encounter is also expected in Domagnano between Fiorentino and Libertas (15:00). Both sides come into the game on the back of two straight wins and sit comfortably in mid-table, in a duel we are likely to see again in the post-season. On paper, Cosmos appear to have the easier task tomorrow in Fiorentino against a Cailungo side now effectively out of contention. However, Selva’s Gialloverdi have not won in two rounds. This match is also scheduled for 15:00. The only fixture of matchday 26 to be played in the evening is Saturday’s game in Montecchio between Pennarossa and Murata, with kick-off at 18:15. For Macerata’s Biancorossi, victory is a must if they are to close in on the play-off spots – currently four points away. It remains a difficult period for the Bianconeri, who have not picked up a point since as far back as 9 November.
