League: Murata stunned at the death, Fiorentino derby ends all square

There was no shortage of drama in Fiorentino in the clash between Faetano and Murata. The Gialloblù snatched a stoppage-time victory that keeps them in the hunt for direct play-off qualification, despite all the difficulties they face when you look at the fixture list. On the other side, Murata, who had come from behind in a game that started uphill, saw a precious point slip through their fingers – a point that would have soothed their league position: with one game fewer left to play than their direct rivals, the Bianconeri are now in real danger. Faetano were the better side in the first half and deservedly went into the break ahead: in the 19th minute Soumah put Girolomoni’s men in front. After the restart Murata still did not produce a real reaction – not immediately, at least. Faetano, however, began to fade and the Bianconeri capitalised on their opponents’ growing sloppiness. In the 66th minute Bernardi struck to level. Then Murata even managed to turn it around: Cangini’s fourth goal of the league campaign looked to be worth a vital three points. But Faetano could rely on a deep bench and plenty of patience: their late siege produced the two goals of the Gialloblù comeback, both scored by substitutes. First it was Russo who met a corner with a well-directed header for 2-2. And deep into stoppage time, Pini delivered the winner – three points that allow Girolomoni’s side – the coach himself was sent off for dissent – to extend their lead over Libertas and keep believing in a difficult target, while for Murata the blow was ice cold: Achille Fabbri and his players now look anxiously at the upcoming fixtures for Cailungo and Juvenes-Dogana, who in any case will face each other in a direct showdown on the same matchday that Murata sit out. With the Preliminary Round around the corner, everything is still on the line. And Juvenes-Dogana are rightly still hoping for a place in the post season, having returned to winning ways today in the derby against bottom side Cosmos. It was a comeback win: Cosmos, in yellow and green, struck first after 26 minutes through Ura. Juvenes-Dogana had to wait until well into the second half to get back on level terms, doing so thanks to Pasquinelli. Barely a minute later Raschi made it 2-1, and in stoppage time Merli wrapped up the points, which keep a faint but still flickering flame alive while they wait to see what Cailungo do tomorrow and, above all, ahead of Wednesday night’s head-to-head. There were far fewer goals on the pitches of Domagnano and Dogana. The eagerly awaited derby between Tre Fiori and Fiorentino finished goalless. The result allows Tre Fiori to temporarily draw level with Virtus but in reality leaves them exposed to attacks from their direct rivals, starting with the Neroverdi of Acquaviva themselves, who face Cailungo tomorrow. Borgagni also lost Lentini, sent off late on. From behind, alongside Faetano, it is above all Pennarossa who are climbing the table, needing just one goal – Dema’s strike just past the hour – to see off Libertas and move within two points of fourth place. In the closing stages Libertas had Cuomo sent off (straight red) and left with a certainty: this defeat mathematically ends their hopes of direct play-off qualification.
