League: San Giovanni end Domagnano’s unbeaten run and climb to seventh
San Giovanni record a third consecutive victory, bringing to an end Domagnano’s unbeaten run that had stretched to seven matches. In that spell the Wolves had not only avoided defeat, they had not even conceded a goal. Tognacci’s side finally break this long clean sheet in the 18th minute, when Corinti robs Parma of the ball and, one-on-one with Colonna, has no trouble beating the Giallorossi goalkeeper. Earlier the Rossoneri had already struck the woodwork from close range through Augusto Garcia. The second goal arrives just after the midway point of the half, from a set piece. Corinti delivers precisely for Augusto Garcia, who times his run perfectly into the heart of the area and powers a header beyond Colonna. On 40 minutes, another effort against the woodwork for the Borgo Maggiore side, this time with Aprea who, after dancing past three opponents, goes through on Colonna and shoots while off balance, lifting his effort just a fraction too high: the ball crashes against the upright and bounces back into play. Even more incredible is the crossbar rattled by Augusto Garcia a couple of minutes later. The number 90 chases his brace with a right-footed strike from thirty metres, but the woodwork denies him for the second time. In added time it is Domagnano’s turn to curse the frame of Magnani’s goal. Gregori drives into the penalty area and unleashes a fierce left-footer that thuds against the post to the right of the Rossoneri keeper.
The second half resumes with no change to the script – that is to say, with another effort against the woodwork. With not even 30 seconds gone, D’Angeli finds Augusto Garcia in the box, who shoots almost with a tap-in’s certainty: once again the ball crashes against the upright – this time on its lower part – then, after bouncing on the goal line, is cleared by the defence. Domagnano push their line higher and pull one back for 2-1 in the 52nd minute, when Gregori and Perazzini combine down the flank and the latter squares it centrally for Ferraro, who beats Magnani at the near post. Once past the hour mark, San Giovanni restore a two-goal cushion by exploiting what is fast becoming their trademark: set pieces. Boldrini swings in a corner for Robba’s header, which is expertly directed inside Colonna’s right-hand post. Magnani’s saves from Ferraro and Perazzini protect a precious win for Tognacci’s men, allowing them to leapfrog Fiorentino and draw level on 36 points with Juvenes-Dogana.
