©FSGC/Palmieri | Cailungo and Libertas face off looking to build on their midweek victories
League: third match in the space of a week this weekend
With the midweek round filed away – one that did not alter the balance of power at the top of the table, aside from the missteps of Domagnano and Folgore in the battle for the play-offs – the Campionato Sammarinese is ready to resume: the 18th matchday is scheduled for this weekend.
Tre Fiori are in action early, facing the toughest assignment among the title contenders. Back in the mix is Tre Penne, five points off the leading pair – bearing in mind that the Fiorentino club must replay the match against Cosmos on 28 January, originally postponed due to fog. Bonini’s side, just like Virtus (both will play on Sunday), are hoping the Gialloblù will drop points in their upcoming double header against the Serravalle teams. Juvenes Dogana, unbeaten in four, will take on Tre Fiori at the “Federico Crescentini” in Fiorentino on Saturday from 15:00. At the same time, in Montecchio, Faetano-Folgore will take centre stage: the win over bottom side Murata was only a brief high in between four defeats for the Gialloblù, who urgently need to get back to picking up points after being caught by Libertas in eleventh place – the last spot that grants access to the postseason. Folgore, now out of the title picture, must look over their shoulder to avoid slipping below seventh, the cut-off to start the play-offs directly from the quarter-finals. This match will be broadcast both on Titani.tv and FIFA+.
Lurking too are Fiorentino, who will face San Giovanni at the “Ezio Conti” stadium in Dogana. Fresh from a spectacular comeback win, Costantini’s men will want to tighten a few bolts at the back: eight of the 22 goals conceded so far have come in the last 180 minutes. It is a trend in this 2026 which, if not reversed, will make it hard to see the Rossoblù among the top seven. The task looks daunting as well for Cailungo and Libertas, who are set for the Borgo Maggiore derby on the artificial pitch in Domagnano. Buoyed by their recent midweek victories, both will be chasing three points that could reignite their ambitions: for the Granata it would confirm their full involvement in the play-off race, while Benedetti’s side would be able to look towards it with renewed belief. Rounding off Saturday’s programme will be the top-versus-bottom clash between Murata and La Fiorita, scheduled at the Acquaviva Stadium. The Bianconeri are in full-on crisis in front of goal and in terms of results, as shown by recent losses to Cailungo and Faetano – sides theoretically within their reach. In addition, the team recently handed to Mancini have scored just once from November to date – and have gone ten games without a win. It is a run they will struggle to halt against La Fiorita, who in turn are looking for more consistency: Ceci’s Gialloblù have alternated a win and a draw since late October – a return which, together with their points deduction, has effectively forced the Montegiardino club to focus on the Coppa Titano and league play-offs.
There will be three fixtures on Sunday. The most intriguing, at least on paper, will see Domagnano and Cosmos meet in Montecchio (15:00). Not least, it will help determine who can come out on top between two sides on a downward curve: the Lupi have not won for four games, collecting only two points against Pennarossa, Libertas and San Giovanni. Cosmos’ crisis runs deeper, although they still sit ten points behind their next opponents and, as things stand, would be forced into the preliminary play-off round. In the background for Selva’s team is also the midweek clash with Tre Fiori, followed by the meeting with Virtus. A far from straightforward trilogy, in which the Gialloverdi will take on three of the top four in the table.
The reigning champions Virtus will also be in action in Domagnano, again at 15:00. Their opponents on the day will be Pennarossa. After a hard-fought and characterful win over Folgore, Bizzotto’s men are aiming to close the gap on Tre Fiori – level on points for now, but with a game in hand to be played next Wednesday. The gripping battle at the summit will culminate in the head-to-head on 14 March, which will intriguingly be slotted between the first and second legs of the Coppa Titano semi-final, where the two will also face off. Tre Penne will also be in action in Fiorentino, up against San Marino Academy. If the Biancazzurri want to haul themselves dramatically back into the title race, they can no longer afford any slip-ups. Berardi and his team-mates are fully aware of this, and they are probably going through the brightest patch of their season. Roberto Di Maio’s youngsters – with the coach ready to return to the bench – are not doing badly either, having just embarked on a brutal run of fixtures, and they certainly did not look out of place against La Fiorita yesterday.
