League: top-of-the-table clash between Folgore and Tre Penne
With the Cup Round of 16 now filed away, it is already the eve of a new round of the Campionato Sammarinese. Matchday seven in fact kicks off tomorrow evening, but its highlight will be the Sunday showpiece (3 pm in Montecchio) between leaders Folgore and chasers Tre Penne. The Giallorossoneri are the only side to have recorded nothing but wins between league and cup, while the Biancoazzurri were halted just a week ago by Tre Fiori (0-0 in Montecchio). Tre Penne remain two points off the summit and, with a win, could leapfrog Michael Ricci’s team. Folgore can rely on the strike partnership of Pancotti–Augusto Garcia Rufer (four goals each, the best attack in the competition), while Tre Penne can boast great defensive solidity (just 2 goals conceded, the best record together with Virtus). Virtus will be looking to gain ground and will play on Saturday – again at 3 pm – against Domagnano. The Neroverdi are level on points with Tre Penne but will need to watch out for the Giallorossi, who are coming off a good and convincing midweek cup victory. Amati’s Wolves, however, have not won in the league since 4 September, whereas Muratori’s Virtus have done nothing but win in their last five outings (six if you include the cup).
Opening the league programme will be the clash tomorrow evening at 9:15 pm (the only match under the lights) between Cailungo and Juvenes Dogana. Both sides are out of the cup and are looking for points to lift their spirits. In terms of recent results, the Rossoverdi are in better shape, having picked up four points from their last three games; it is a different story for the Serravalle side, who have lost their last five in a row. In addition to live coverage on Titani.tv, Cailungo–Juvenes Dogana will also be available on FIFA +.
There will then be four games on the afternoon of Saturday 31 October. Besides the aforementioned Domagnano–Virtus, Tre Fiori will also be hunting for points to move back towards the top. The reigning champions – fresh from putting five past Fiorentino in the cup – will take on Murata (Fiorentino, 3 pm). Girolomoni’s side are five points behind leaders Folgore, while Murata are chasing their second league win – which slipped away last week in the final second against Domagnano. The cup exertions have not affected La Fiorita, who are already through to the quarter-finals as holders. Selva’s team, however, can no longer afford missteps if they want to fight for the top positions (they are currently sixth, eight points off the pace). For the Gialloblù – with three draws in their last five – there is a Libertas (Domagnano, 3 pm) whose form has been up and down but who have caused leaders Folgore plenty of problems both in the league and in the cup. Also in search of precious points are Pennarossa and San Marino Academy, meeting again on Saturday at 3 pm, this time in Montecchio. The Biancorossi are buoyed by a fine cup win over Cailungo, while in the league they have collected four points from their last three. Cancelli’s Titans, on the other hand, are still chasing their first victory of the season.
Three matches are scheduled for Sunday. We have already covered the big clash between Folgore and Tre Penne, while on All Saints’ Day Cosmos–Fiorentino and San Giovanni–Faetano will also take to the field. Serravalle’s Gialloverdi are in excellent form (four wins on the spin), powered by the strike duo of Guidotti and Cremonini: the former is the league’s top scorer with 6 goals and also found the net in the cup, while the latter both scores and sets up goals (5 goals and 5 assists in the league). Fiorentino, for their part, are making their mark at the back (only six goals conceded). Just a single point separates San Giovanni and Faetano in the table. The Rossoneri are ahead of the Gialloblù, with both sides coming off a league draw – and elimination from the cup. In attack, however, San Giovanni will have to do without the suspended Zanni (two goals in the competition).
