League: Tre Fiori top for one night, San Giovanni win after 3 months

In their third outing of the week, the San Marino clubs saw a Tre Fiori side that also got the better of Juvenes Dogana and move clear at the top, at least for the night. In the other early fixtures of the 18th round of the league, there were wins as well for San Giovanni, La Fiorita and Libertas.

Fog brought another match to a halt: at Montecchio Faetano-Folgore could not be played, and the game will be rescheduled for Tuesday 27 January at 20:45 in Acquaviva.

Starting with league leaders Tre Fiori, who in Fiorentino – in thick fog – ran out 2-0 winners over Juvenes Dogana. Girolomoni’s Gialloblù broke the deadlock early (11’) through a move involving Benedettini and Prandelli (his 16th goal of the season, joint-top scorer with Domagnano’s Bonetti). The second arrived five minutes later from a Bernardi penalty. Tre Fiori’s quick one-two was enough for the Gialloblù to put the game firmly under control and take home all three points (a fifth consecutive victory). While waiting for Virtus to play tomorrow, the Fiorentino club can enjoy top spot on their own.

La Fiorita also keep on winning and remain unbeaten. In Acquaviva it was straightforward for Ceci’s side, who scored once in each half to defeat Murata – still rooted to the bottom. The Gialloblù created several chances and finally broke the deadlock at the end of the first half with a fine move finished off by Olcese from a Toccaceli assist. The same striker went within centimetres of doubling the lead at the start of the second half, hitting the post, before Vitaioli effectively wrapped it up on 70 minutes, quick to turn in a Cicarelli free-kick from the edge of the box that Sias had only parried. La Fiorita win 2-0 and, for the moment, overtake Domagnano to move into fourth place.

It’s a good spell for Libertas, who notch their second straight win. The Granata come from behind in Domagnano to beat Cailungo 2-1. After a quarter of an hour it was in fact the Rossoblù who opened the scoring with a penalty converted by Bua. However, in the 34th minute Libertas got back into it thanks to one of their new faces: Enrico Cozzino applied the decisive tap-in after a brilliant save by Gallinetta on Morelli. The game stayed level until added time (90+3’), when there was contact on the edge of the box between Colagiovanni and Rigoni. Avoni had no doubts and pointed to the spot. Captain Morelli stepped up and made no mistake, delivering three precious points to Libertas.

A narrow but vital victory for San Giovanni, who end a long drought. The Rossoneri had not won since 26 October, in the match against Cailungo. On that occasion the star was D’Angeli, whose brace carried his side to victory. The San Giovanni striker was the match-winner again this afternoon, thanks to a penalty converted on 80 minutes that sealed the win over Fiorentino. In the first half San Giovanni went close to taking the lead on a couple of occasions, with Costantini’s Rossoblù saved by some excellent stops from Berardi. Casadei was just as decisive when, on 51 minutes, he produced a stunning save with his foot to deny Mariano. On 80 minutes came the decisive moment: D’Angeli was brought down by Cucchi in the box. As mentioned, the forward kept his nerve from the spot and gave his team their first win of the new year.
