League: Tre Penne get the job done with a few scares, Libertas halt Cosmos in the 90th minute
After Friday night’s glut of goals, this afternoon’s games in the opening round of the 2026-27 Campionato Sammarinese delivered two more entertaining matches. Tre Penne’s win over San Giovanni was anything but straightforward, with the Rossoneri in it right to the end (3-2), while Cosmos and Libertas produced the only draw of the afternoon (1-1). In Montecchio the deadlock was broken after just five minutes, with San Giovanni taking the lead: Filippi drives to the byline on the edge of the area and fires the ball hard across goal; on the end of it is Mattia Zanni (who hit double figures last season), and he makes no mistake. Bonini’s Tre Penne respond on 19 minutes with an effort from Casadio, but captain Vandi throws himself in the way to block. Just after the half-hour, however, San Giovanni have a great chance to double their advantage through D’Angeli, who finds himself one-on-one with Andreani, but the Rossoneri striker cannot find the net. Tre Penne break and on 38 minutes they draw level: Ceccaroli bursts away down the left flank, looks up and finds Casadio in the box, who brings it under control and then sends Casadei the wrong way. The equaliser energises the side from Città and before the break they even turn it around: a shot from Casadio is cleared by the Rossoneri defence, but Loiodice is first onto the loose ball, brings it down, takes aim from distance and picks out the far corner beyond Casadei.
San Giovanni refuse to lie down and just after the hour mark they restore parity: D’Orsi wins the ball back in midfield and drives forward with it at his feet; no Biancoazzurro steps in to stop him and, on reaching the edge of the area, he unleashes a powerful strike which takes a deflection off Ruiz and nestles in the back of Andreani’s net. Tre Penne pile forward again in search of another lead: on 68 minutes Casadei produces a stunning save to deny Casadio, but the assistant’s flag was already raised for offside as the shot came in. The drama at Montecchio is not over because on 75 minutes Bonini’s Biancoazzurri go in front once more: superb work from Pieri, who picks out Kamouni – on the pitch only a few minutes – and the forward controls before coolly slotting past Casadei with surgical precision for 3-2. It proves to be the decisive goal in Montecchio, with Tre Penne – despite some difficulties – taking home their first three points of the season. Even in defeat, new Rossoneri boss Matteo Antonioli will have seen plenty to be pleased about. Pending tomorrow’s fixtures, the only draw of the opening round comes between Cosmos and Libertas. The first clear chance falls to Paolo Rossi’s Gialloverdi on 10 minutes when Cremonini plays a vertical ball for Tonini, but the striker wastes the opportunity from an excellent position. Libertas – coached by Achille Fabbri – also show their attacking intent shortly before the half-hour, forcing Semprini to showcase his skills: the Cosmos goalkeeper first says no to a long-range effort from Osayande, then narrows the angle brilliantly to repel two follow-up attempts from Socciarelli. At the other end, Foiera, the Libertas keeper, is just as sharp, producing a big save from Cremonini on 40 minutes. The sides go in level at the break, but the deadlock is finally broken in the 67th minute: Nicola Sartini finds Cremonini, who, once inside the box, shifts the ball onto his left foot and bends a wonderful shot beyond the reach of Foiera. Rossi’s side push on in search of a second: on 70 minutes there is a good move involving Tonini and Sartini, but the former San Giovanni man cannot convert from a promising position. Libertas hold firm and, on 90 minutes, manage to snatch an equaliser: it all stems from a deep free-kick by captain Morelli towards Melandri, who beats Semprini to the ball as he comes out and squares it across goal for Vandi, who makes no mistake to seal the 1-1 final scoreline.
The opening weekend of the league season will then conclude tomorrow afternoon with the last two matches (Tre Fiori-Pennarossa and the big clash Virtus-La Fiorita). Here is the current overview:
