League: Tre Penne idle as La Fiorita target top spot
Tomorrow the teams are back in action for the three early fixtures of Matchday 15, which will be completed the following day. Not involved in this round of league catch-up fixtures – one of those postponed due to the Covid emergency – will be Tre Penne, who are in serious danger of being stripped of first place in the Single Group. After clawing back two points from their rivals last weekend, La Fiorita now have a real opportunity to seize the most coveted position. If they beat Fiorentino, Lasagni’s side will draw level with Ceci’s, but would effectively be ahead thanks to a better head-to-head record. All calculations are deferred to late tomorrow evening, once the Acquaviva clash between the Gialloblù and Fiorentino – who will have top scorer Ben Kacem back and will not want to halt the resurgence begun in the last midweek round – has been played.
Virtus have lost touch with the podium places and, after Saturday’s draw – the Neroverdi’s second in a row under Bizzotto – are eager to get back to winning ways, perhaps taking advantage of Murata’s dip in form. Hampered by numerous injuries – and with Valentini suspended tomorrow – Murata have failed to win and have not scored a single goal in their last five league outings. For Fabbri’s men, that translates into an urgent need to react and to improve a league position that has slipped dangerously towards the border zone. They play in Domagnano. The other Tuesday early fixture sees Libertas and Folgore face off, two sides in completely contrasting moods and up against each other in a sort of play-off. While the Granata – without the suspended Berretti – are chasing a win that has eluded them for three matches, Folgore returned to victory with a comprehensive 3-0 last Saturday, a result that allows them to approach one of the most intriguing fixtures of the round with a wealth of positive thoughts, and helps offset the absence of Rosini, anything but negligible in Omar Lepri’s set-up. Both sides will be looking to pull clear of the other. At present they are level on 31 points.
Goalkeeper Semprini will be missing, but some of the many players absent on Sunday will return from suspension. There is also the point snatched at the death from league leaders Tre Penne to spur Pennarossa on as they face bottom side Cosmos, who were forced to halt a mini positive run of two draws and will call on their pride in search of a reaction in a tough match, against a team fully in the race to establish themselves – possibly as early as this round – on the fringes of the podium. Firmly occupying that lowest step of the podium are Tre Fiori, who, after their victory over Faetano – which ended a sequence of four straight draws – are demanding another three points from themselves at the expense of Juvenes-Dogana, second from bottom in the group and returning to action after their rest round. Federico Ciccione will be missing for the Gialloblù. Another Federico, Berardi, will not be able – at least this round – to help San Giovanni rediscover a win that has eluded them for three games and would be an excellent “medicine” for Togniacci’s Rossoneri in a spell that has seen them slip to 12th place, the last position granting access to the Preliminary Round. Standing in the way of the Borgo Maggiore side will be Domagnano, who can breathe again after their win over Cosmos and are keen to continue their climb towards the safer mid-table area of the Single Group, certainly more reassuring than the one currently occupied by their opponents. However, the Sports Judge has deprived coach Mancini of Daniele Grieco. Finally, Cailungo-Faetano: the Acquaviva fixture pits a Rossoverdi side on an unbeaten run, but in need of a change of pace if they are to reopen the door to the Preliminary Round, against a Gialloblù team coming off a defeat after five positive results in a row and determined to bounce back immediately. Lorenzo Fatica is suspended.
