League: Tre Penne run riot, Faetano smile after more than two months

Just a few days on from the midweek round, the Campionato Sammarinese resumed this afternoon with Matchday 28 of the regular season. In Saturday’s early kick-offs, Tre Penne flex their muscles with a resounding 6-1 win over Cailungo, climbing – for now – into second place. It is all plain sailing for Bonini’s men, who pour forward from the first minutes. Berardi hits the post on 18 minutes and, two minutes later, Iuzzolino smashes the ball against his own crossbar – the prelude to the Biancoazzurri’s opener. On 23 minutes a Turchetta free-kick from the edge of the area is inch-perfect and makes it 1-0. The second goal is not long in coming: on 32 minutes Berardi scores from the penalty spot, his 13th league goal of the campaign. The Biancoazzurri are nowhere near done and, just before half-time, Errico takes aim from distance and beats Francioni. The script does not change after the restart and, on the hour mark, Pieri also joins the party, reacting quickest to tuck home after Francioni can only parry a first attempt. Twenty minutes later Kamouni also gets on the scoresheet, turning in from close range from a Peluso assist. Cailungo only show some signs of life at the death, with Bua netting a consolation on 81 minutes from a Colagiovanni pass at the end of a fine team move. The last word, however, belongs to Tre Penne, who in the 89th minute make it 6-1 with a right-foot curler into the top corner from Peluso – the sixth different scorer of the afternoon. While Tre Fiori and Virtus wait to take to the pitch tomorrow, the Biancoazzurri move up to second, three points off top spot. The only draw of the day comes between La Fiorita and Domagnano. Early on there is an immediate chance for Bonetti, the league’s top scorer, who goes within centimetres of breaking the deadlock. The match does open up on 28 minutes, though, in favour of the Montegiardino side: Affonso reaches the by-line and cuts the ball back for Guidi, whose shot is parried by Perazzini, but the loose ball falls to Semprini, who makes it 1-0. In the 37th minute, however, the Gialloblù are forced to deal with Guidi’s sending-off: booked a minute earlier after a flare-up with Ferraro, he then goes in late on Gozzi and receives a second yellow. Despite being a man down, La Fiorita create the better chances but are unable to kill off the game. On 73 minutes Papi denies Nappello and, from the rebound, Zaccaria fails to convert from point-blank range. Shortly afterwards Affonso – one of the best players on the pitch – once again causes chaos, dribbling past Papi, but just when a second goal seems certain, Guglielmi makes a goal-saving intervention. Domagnano hang in and, two minutes from time, manage to equalise through two substitutes: Sopranzi does brilliantly down the flank and delivers a perfect cross onto the head of Babboni, who leaves Zavoli no chance. It ends 1-1 in Acquaviva, with La Fiorita moving – temporarily – above Folgore into fourth place. There is a come-from-behind win for Faetano, who beat Fiorentino 2-1 to record a victory that had been eluding them for over two months. On 19 minutes, a neat combination between Belward and Ben Kacem allows the latter to open the scoring in Montecchio. The Gialloblù respond with a spell of sustained pressure in the 22nd minute but Benedettini produces a double save. Faetano grow into the game and, shortly before the break, they level through Pallante, who powers past Molinari and makes it 1-1. Early in the second half the comeback is complete for Sperindio’s side, as Lenzu threads a vertical ball through to Elia, who reaches the edge of the area, shifts onto his right and beats Benedettini. Late on (83’) Faetano do, however, have a scare when Kokeri is shown a second yellow card and leaves his team down to ten men. In goal, Venturini proves decisive, producing a monumental save on 89 minutes from a dangerous Belward free-kick on the edge of the area. Faetano therefore take all three points and – even if they remain outside the play-off places – can at last smile again at the tail-end of the season. Fiorentino’s positive run, which stretched to four matches, comes to an end. A precious victory in terms of the post-season picture for San Giovanni, who – pending Pennarossa’s game tomorrow – extend their cushion over twelfth place. Tognacci’s Rossoneri edge out San Marino Academy thanks to yet another goal from Mattia Zanni, who moves into double figures. Just before the opener, Achille Conti is crucial – back between the posts for the Titani – with a fine stop from a Vandi header. The decisive strike arrives on 27 minutes, when Tumidei manages to recycle a seemingly lost ball on the by-line and plays it into the middle for Zanni, who does well to spin away from Renzi in the box and beat Conti. The Titani goalkeeper is again vital at the end of the first half, keeping out D’Angeli. Little else happens; the Academy fail to pose much of a threat and San Giovanni are happy to take advantage. The Rossoneri remain in eleventh place – the last spot granting access to the play-offs – with a four-point lead over Pennarossa (who face Cosmos tomorrow).
