League: Tre Penne run riot with record-breaking Chierighini, Virtus up to third
Tre Penne enjoy a record-breaking evening: not so much for the size of the scoreline – impressive in itself – as for the final 8 minutes of play including stoppage time. In that spell, the light-blue-and-white goal is entrusted to Alfredo Chierighini, who at 56 years and 58 days old officially became yesterday the most "experienced" player ever to set foot on the pitch in the Campionato Sammarinese. The previous record belonged to Pier Marino Della Valle of Faetano, who played at the age of 55 years and 115 days. The joy and pride for Chierighini’s landmark are just the cherry on the cake of an almost perfect night: Tre Penne needed to bounce back from the defeat to Virtus, and do so without holding anything back. Juvenes-Dogana are unable to stem the waves from Città: at half-time it is already 3-0, courtesy of a Ceccaroli brace either side of a goal from Gai. The National Team winger completes his hat-trick on the hour, immediately after D’angeli pulls one back. In the meantime Tre Penne had already piled on with the 4-0 and 5-0 scored, respectively, by Badalassi and Pieri; the latter will also apply the final seal, about ten minutes before Stefano Ceci decides to make the evening of his totem in the No. 55 shirt unforgettable – and record-breaking.
Juvenes-Dogana, chasing a second consecutive win, now have more than one foot outside the Preliminary Round places, even if mathematically Amati’s Biancorossoazzurri are not yet definitively condemned. The mission seems much more within reach for Cailungo, who feared a decisive breakaway from Murata and San Giovanni but instead stay right on the heels of the two sides, again level right on the cusp of the Preliminary Round zone. Surely, Protti’s men would have preferred that Pennarossa’s 1-0 lead – scored by Stefanelli in the 21st minute of the first half – had held up until the final whistle. Instead, 5 minutes from time San Giovanni salvage the evening thanks to Kevin Lisi’s first league goal, with a 1-1 that brings practical, if not decisive, advantages to both contenders: Pennarossa had planned to make full use of Tre Fiori’s rest day to move close to the direct play-off spots, while San Giovanni were hoping to secure their post-season berth, but can still be partially satisfied not to have lost ground on Cailungo and also for having caught Murata, beaten after two straight draws. The Bianconeri pay the price for a single goal in their clash with leaders La Fiorita. Montegiardino take maximum profit from Gregori’s strike on the half-hour mark. The biggest smiles, though, are in the Virtus camp: the Neroverdi live up to their billing in the match with Cosmos and put the indicator on to overtake in third place, snatching it from Tre Fiori. It is Nodari’s brace, on target after 8 minutes and then again on 26 minutes, that delivers Bizzotto’s side their third win in four, and a second in a row following the one against Tre Penne.
