League: two midweek fixtures to be completed

Tomorrow and Wednesday evening at 20:45 the two matches recently postponed due to fog in the 2025-26 Campionato Sammarinese will be played. They are Faetano-Folgore, rescheduled in Acquaviva and valid for Matchday 18, and Tre Fiori-Cosmos, which will be played in just over forty-eight hours at the “Ezio Conti” Stadium in Dogana after being abandoned ten days ago – when the 16th round of the league was on the schedule. There is one subtle difference between the two: while tomorrow’s clash will be replayed in full, the one involving Girolomoni’s and Selva’s teams has already seen six minutes and twenty seconds run off the clock. That is how long was played on 18 January in Fiorentino before it was deemed impossible to continue the match. Specifically, play will restart with Tre Fiori in possession, taking a goal kick – exactly from the position where the ball was at the time of the interruption.

At stake are crucial points in the race for the play-offs and the title, and from Thursday morning the league table will be cleared of the asterisks indicating a game in hand for the four sides taking to the field. Taking things in order, Faetano and Folgore will be looking to strengthen their respective claims in their target groups. Oscar Lasagni’s team are in the group of six that – behind the future champions – will qualify directly for the play-off quarter-finals, while the Gialloblù are aiming to get back into contention for the Preliminary Round, which will involve the four teams finishing from eighth place down in the standings. Sperindio’s men are going through a dip in form, in which victory over bottom side Murata helped keep alive their hopes of reaching the postseason, a race that now also includes Libertas – who have overtaken Faetano thanks to two wins on the bounce. Folgore find themselves leading a pack of four teams separated by the same number of points: two of them will earn a direct ticket to the quarter-finals, the others will have to go through an extra round. A win would see them draw level with Domagnano in fifth place and, above all, open up a six-point gap on their pursuers. As per the original schedule, tomorrow’s match at the Acquaviva Stadium will also be broadcast on FIFA+.

On Wednesday night it will be the turn of league leaders Tre Fiori. The only team, together with Tre Penne, to have put together five consecutive wins, they want to confirm their form against Cosmos to move into top spot on their own, in that case three points clear of defending champions Virtus. The assignment against the side coached by former striker Andy Selva is anything but straightforward: the Gialloverdi from Serravalle have shown they are capable of anything, both positive and negative. The squad, partially revamped, is of good quality and a recent 3-0 win over Domagnano has restored confidence around the club. What’s more, a Cosmos victory would lift them to seventh place – the last position granting direct access to the play-off quarter-finals. Wednesday’s meeting will be the fourth clash of the season between Cosmos and Tre Fiori, and so far it has been one-way traffic: a narrow win for Girolomoni’s side in the league opener, followed by emphatic victories in the Coppa Titano quarter-finals. Extending that trend in midweek would give fresh impetus to their title charge, further distancing a Tre Penne side who, with a string of wins, have closed to within five points of the summit.
