Referees: Delvecchio promoted to FIFA Beach Soccer Elite, two San Marino match officials at UEFA CORE
These are busy days on the San Marino refereeing front. Alongside the launch of the new course for aspiring football and futsal referees, two important developments concern the international activity of the referees and assistant referees within the ASA “stable”. The first is that Raffaele Delvecchio, an international referee for San Marino since 2018, has been promoted to the FIFA Elite category for Beach Soccer, the highest level of all. What convinced the FIFA Instructors were the constant improvements shown by Delvecchio over these six years, during which the ASA match official has handled with authority some of the most prestigious stages in international Beach Soccer, such as the Euro Winners, the World Winners, the Euro Beach Soccer Superfinals, the European qualifiers (EBSL) and the 2023 Mundialito. And while one referee is reaping the deserved rewards of his work, there are two others dreaming of an equally bright international future. They are Andrea Righi (referee) and Matteo Colonna (assistant referee): the first two San Marino nationals to be simultaneously enrolled on the CORE course that UEFA organises every year to prepare promising young referees and assistant referees for elite football, with a view to their potential future involvement on the international stage.
