Referees: futsal officials’ pre-season retreat at the Stadium last weekend
The Sammarinese futsal refereeing corps gathered last Saturday, 13 September, for their pre-season retreat at San Marino Stadium. It was a valuable opportunity for all participants to familiarise themselves with the latest amendments to the Laws of the Game and to verify their full understanding through bespoke tests prepared by the Associazione Sammarinese Arbitri. The schedule, split between morning and afternoon sessions, also focused on case studies from last season, with video analysis of various, more or less recurring, match situations. There was a well-attended and detailed in-depth segment dedicated to instances of DOGSO (Denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunityand SPA (Stopping a promising attack – a foul to halt a promising attack).
Adding further value to the working day of the Sammarinese futsal match officials were two distinguished guests who joined the retreat: Andrea Farabini, former UEFA Futsal Delegate and Vice-President of the Divisione Calcio a 5. Joining from the desk was Simone Zanfino, a FIGC referee since 2010 who has just begun his tenth consecutive season at national level (CAN 5 Èlite). More recent, finally, is his international debut: a FIFA referee since 2024, he is currently completing his second consecutive year representing Italian refereeing on the continental stage and beyond.
