Referees: Righi and Colonna complete UEFA CORE pathway
Last week in Nyon, Switzerland, referee Andrea Righi and assistant referee Matteo Colonna concluded their experience at the UEFA Centre of Refereeing Excellence (CORE), UEFA's programme dedicated to the development and refinement of match officials. The two San Marino representatives took part in the 62nd consolidation course, held from 12 to 16 October 2026, together with referees and assistant referees from various European associations.
It was an intensive week, structured around classroom and on-field training activities, with technical insights through video analysis, exercises focused on teamwork and decision-making processes, as well as sessions devoted to the VAR protocol, the Laws of the Game and sporting integrity.
Significant attention was also given to physical preparation, with speed, agility and endurance tests, as well as specific exercises for injury prevention and improving concentration. In this area in particular, the San Marino representatives achieved noteworthy results: Andrea Righi recorded the best time in the speed test, while Matteo Colonna shared the top performance, together with the Spanish assistant referee, in the ARIET endurance test.
