Tura, Zafferani and Grana at the Kigali Congress: Infantino confirmed at the helm of FIFA

Among the various items on the agenda of the 73rd FIFA Congress, held this year in Kigali – the capital of Rwanda – first and foremost was the election of the President. Gianni Infantino, the sole candidate for the FIFA leadership, received confirmation from the Congress for the 2023-2027 mandate: "An incredible honour and privilege, which also entails a significant responsibility. I promise all of you,” Infantino said immediately after the vote, “that I will continue to serve football and all the associations that are part of the FIFA family". Among the 211 associations affiliated to FIFA, the San Marino Football Federation was also present in Rwanda, represented by President Marco Tura, Secretary General Luigi Zafferani and Vice President Simone Grana. In Kigali the FSGC leadership also took part in the UEFA continental meeting, chaired by the Executive Committee of the European football confederation, whose work was led by President Čeferin and General Secretary Theodoridis. The FIFA Congress also addressed the launch of a Club World Cup featuring 32 participating teams. Having secured unanimous approval for the project model proposed at last Tuesday’s Congress session, from the 2025 edition each continent will be represented in the competition which – from 2025 – will crown the best club in the world from an expanded field of 32 participants.
