Under-21: first match of 2022 in Hungary, debut as head coach for Cecchetti
The first outing for Matteo Cecchetti as head coach of the San Marino Under-21 national team will be at the Nándor Hidegkuti Stadion in Budapest, one of the many stadiums in the capital and certainly among the newest, as well as one of the closest in feel to the Titans’ home venues. There are around 5,000 seats, although tomorrow’s attendance is expected to be about a tenth of total capacity, partly due to a kick-off time that does not sit well with work commitments. Kick-off, entrusted to Georgian referee Irakli Kvirikashvili, is set for 16:30.
At the same time today, Cecchetti scheduled the official training session, useful for shaking off the fatigue from the trip from San Marino to Budapest – made by charter flight from Rimini – and for getting acquainted with the conditions the young Biancazzurri will encounter in tomorrow’s match. A positive note in this respect is the distinctly spring-like temperature in the Hungarian capital.
Twenty-one players have been called up by coach Cecchetti, who is ready to take his place on the bench for the first time with the San Marino Under-21 national team. Tomorrow’s match will also mark a full international debut for some members of the technical staff: Lunardini and Testoni, assistant coach and fitness coach respectively.
