Walking Football: the FSGC team in action in Fermo for their first official tournament
The weekend just gone marked the very first participation of the San Marino Walking Football team in an official tournament. Under the name FSGC San Marino, on Saturday and Sunday the side coached by Matteo Giardi and Thomas Berti took part in the 4th Città di Fermo Tournament (Over-50 category), facing hosts Fermana, Asti, Pro Calcio Ascoli, ASD Roma and Real Maranello in succession. In the five matches played there was unfortunately no positive result to celebrate; however, the Titans earned the tournament’s Fair Play award and also scored three goals – two by Andrea Gualtieri and the other by Luigi Belisardi. These are the first tangible rewards in a “walk” – literally – that is growing strongly and set to be enriched by new experiences like the one just completed.
“We are delighted that our team took part in the 4th Città di Fermo Tournament, the first official outing for FSGC San Marino Walking Football, and for this we would like to thank Walking Football Italia and Fermana FC WF for inviting us and giving us a wonderful welcome, also awarding us the Fair Play prize.” was the comment of Andrea Zoppis, head of the Walking Football project for FSGC – “Now in the third year of the programme and with the number of participants constantly growing, it was important to give the group the chance to test themselves on the pitch at official level against Italian and foreign teams, above all to share experiences and social opportunities, which are just as important as the aspect linked to physical health, one of the cornerstones of the entire project. From this point of view, over the coming year we will look to continue along the path already taken, further strengthening collaboration with the diabetes centre at the Hospital of San Marino so that we can also carry out more in-depth scientific studies on the benefits of Walking Football. All of this will go hand in hand with our parallel objective of enjoying ourselves together, as we have done up to now.”
