Winter Cup U19: Beccari pulls San Marino level, but Malta race away to 3-1

The Under-19 National Team find the net again at the Winter Cup, although it is Malta who take the final three points that were up for grabs yesterday morning at the Poreč arena. The first half runs for a long time on the tracks of perfect balance; it is broken by a long-range effort from Felice which, helped by a deflection, gives Malta the lead with less than 19 seconds remaining before the half-time buzzer. When play resumes, San Marino’s youngsters need very little time to get back on level terms. Beccari gets a touch to the powerful in-swinging corner from Dolcini and, despite the close marking of Vella, beats the Malta keeper and becomes San Marino’s second scorer in the tournament after Dolcini himself, who a few days earlier had found the net against Romania. Malta, however, quickly regroup. Within 4 minutes (effective playing time) they restore their lead with the unfortunate deflection by Lotti on Coulaud’s powerful ball driven into the middle. The 2-1 also “pulls” the 3-1, which follows in quick succession. It all stems from a poorly taken corner, recycled brilliantly by Coulaud, who sets up Essien Borg on his right foot; the shot is wayward but perfect as an assist for Felice, who, with an empty net in front of him, simply cannot fail to complete his brace.
