Women’s football: U16 National Team set to depart for North Macedonia

The San Marino Women’s Under-16 National Team is ready to take part in the second UEFA Development Tournament in its history, following the one hosted in the Republic in the spring of 2024, which marked the absolute debut of a women’s Biancazzurre side on the international football stage. Two years on, the picture is far richer and more structured – with the addition to the national-team pathway of the senior San Marino Women’s National Team, the Women’s Under-17 National Team and the Women’s Under-19 National Team.

A new generation of San Marino women players is therefore ready to embrace the dream of a debut on the European stage in their country’s colours, even if the upcoming games will not have points at stake. The very purpose of the UEFA Development Tournaments, organised for Under-15 and Under-16 national teams, is to ensure that young talents in the various football movements can test themselves at international level before making their bow in UEFA European youth qualifying competitions.

Righi’s Biancazzurrine will leave this evening for Skopje, before heading on to Strumica – the venue for the matches involving the Titane, as well as hosts North Macedonia, Kosovo and Andorra. San Marino will make their debut at midday on Wednesday 6 May against the home side, before facing their Kosovar counterparts at 15:30 on Friday 8 May. The final act comes on Monday morning: the match with Andorra is scheduled for 10:00 to allow the team to return home the same day. All matches at the U16 Development Tournament will be shown live streaming on the YouTube channel of the Football Federation of North Macedonia.
