Championship: Fiorentino and San Giovanni face off in midweek clash
The first midweek round of 2025 in the Campionato Sammarinese is just around the corner. The 17th matchday of the competition will be played tomorrow and Wednesday and – in a late change – the games originally scheduled in Acquaviva will be moved to Fiorentino. Kick-off times remain unchanged: all matches will start at 21:15.
Virtus open the round, taking on Domagnano tomorrow in Montecchio. The reverse fixture was decided by a Buonocunto brace, fresh from his recent déjà-vu against San Giovanni. Merendino is back available for Paolo Rossi, while Manuel Mazzavillani will miss the Montecchio clash as he serves the third and final match of his ban. With just a one-point cushion over the relegation zone, Domagnano badly need points – especially with the simultaneous relegation six‑pointer Libertas-Juvenes-Dogana. A draw between Buda’s and Fabbri’s sides would suit the Granata more, though they are clearly aiming for victory to climb away from trouble. One of the hardest matches to predict this midweek, it will be played in Fiorentino. Both sides welcome back a player from suspension: captain Cevoli for the Biancorossazzurri, and Lazzaretti for the Borgo Maggiore club. Another Juvenes-Dogana defender, Rodriguez Maza, is sidelined by a disciplinary ban.
Among the most eagerly awaited encounters is certainly Fiorentino-San Giovanni, scheduled in Domagnano. Despite a three‑game winless run, Tognacci’s Rossoneri have shown good form, as confirmed in their very recent meeting with league leaders Virtus. The downside is the red card shown to a key man like Robba, who will be replaced by the returning Fabbri. There are no suspensions in Tarini’s squad, and he will again be able to call on Diagne in the back line. At the same time, at the Ezio Conti in Dogana it will be San Marino Academy-Tre Fiori. Performances by the Biancazzurrini are on the up; only a goal was missing for them to deservedly overcome Domagnano and claim a third win in four games. Simone Gasperoni is back at Cecchetti’s disposal after suspension, while Tre Fiori are looking to put an end to a run of alternating wins and defeats that has lasted for the last four rounds.
On Wednesday’s card, Murata-Cosmos stands out for its technical profile. Both sides are undergoing significant changes: on the bench for the Gialloverdi, with Andy Selva coming in to replace Lepri. Even deeper is the transformation at the club from Città, which besides appointing a new coach – Michele Camillini – has carried out major squad rotations in the transfer market. After the defeat to La Fiorita, they responded with a convincing and emphatic win over Pennarossa. Dolci’s side will be up against Folgore: by no means an easy opponent at the moment. Over the last five games, the Falciano side trail only Virtus in terms of points collected. This run has lifted Lasagni’s men into third place, level with Fiorentino. On the horizon lies a real chance to consolidate their top status: in Domagnano they will face the bottom side in the table.
There is also a top-v-bottom clash in Montecchio on Wednesday, when La Fiorita, clear favourites, will meet Cailungo. Massari is back at Ceci’s disposal, and the coach will be keen to ensure maximum focus from his players in this midweek assignment. Sarti’s team have lost only once in their last five matches – beaten solely by Tre Fiori. Elsewhere, three wins and a draw have significantly revived Cailungo’s ambitions of reaching the play-offs, with the Reds now five points behind Faetano in 11th place. The Gialloblù will face Tre Penne, still searching for a clear identity: the experience and quality of Ricciardo and De Queiroz will be key assets in the post‑season, an obvious destination for the Biancocelesti, who nevertheless want to get there from the best possible seeding position. Currently seventh, Berardi’s men sit nine points off fourth place, while Cosmos – the closest team ahead of them – are four points clear. Barretta and Guidi are both out, while for Faetano former Tre Penne man Zonzini returns from suspension. Ricchiuti’s side, beaten four times in their last five outings, will be looking for a more clinical performance than the one against Cailungo – when Brisigotti and his team-mates squandered countless gilt‑edged chances, only to succumb to a moment of brilliance from Alessandro Conti.
This is the fixture list for Matchday 17 of the 2024-25 Campionato Sammarinese, with all matches available live via streaming and on-demand on the Titani.TV platform.
