Futsal: in Acquaviva the big match of Matchday 6, Virtus face bottom side Tre Fiori

So far Virtus’ path has been free of obstacles. And now the fixture list presents the league leaders with the opponent that has struggled the most of all up to this point: Tre Fiori, bottom with zero points. There is no doubt that the Gialloblù will have to show real character to counter Michelotti’s side in the top-versus-bottom clash that will close the evening in Domagnano. Opening it will be Cosmos, fresh from two prestigious 3-3 draws (against last season’s finalists in all three domestic competitions: Murata and Pennarossa), and a Fiorentino side that started very poorly but has recently relaunched itself thanks to the win over Cailungo, their first of the season. Franchino’s and Screti’s teams are currently separated by two points, while just one point divides San Giovanni and Juvenes-Dogana, who face each other in the second match in Acquaviva. At stake are hugely valuable points to put some distance between themselves and the danger zone in the single-group league: San Giovanni have not won since the opening day and are coming off three consecutive defeats, while the biancorossoazzurri recently came to a halt after two straight draws. Before the meeting between Palermino’s and Cellarosi’s sides, the Acquaviva court will host the undisputed big match of the night, the one between La Fiorita – second with a perfect record (having already had their rest round) – and Murata, still unbeaten but held to a draw by Cosmos two matchdays ago. It is highly possible that the winner of this super clash will end the night in second place; while those two are fighting it out, league leaders Virtus – and also Tre Penne, eager to bounce back from last round’s defeat and, more generally, to rediscover a league win that has been missing for two games – will try to take advantage. For Penserini’s side, in action in Dogana, there is a concrete chance of climbing to third place, but they must in no way underestimate Cailungo’s quality and desire for redemption, after they fell to Fiorentino following two positive results in a row, on top of the near-upset they came close to in the Futsal Cup. Faetano, on the other hand, are driven not by a desire for revenge but by a hunger for confirmation. Selva’s boys have just claimed their first win of the season and will certainly do everything they can to keep climbing the table. On the other side stand a Pennarossa side that have yet to truly take off this season, but remain within touching distance of fourth place and, in any case, are on a three-game unbeaten run. Adding to the motivation of the Chiesanuova club is Folgore’s rest round, with the current champions level on points with the runners-up. Faetano-Pennarossa will be the second match of the evening in Dogana and will have a very special flavour for Gialloblù coach Matteo Selva, who in 2015 won the two trophies that now adorn the Chiesanuova club’s trophy cabinet. Libertas and Domagnano will wrap up the programme for Matchday 6, meeting at the Acquaviva Sports Hall on Tuesday at 22:00. On the same court last Thursday, the Granata saw their positive run (two wins and a draw) come to an end with a somewhat surprising defeat to Faetano, after two wins out of two in the cup against Selva’s Gialloblù. Domagnano, meanwhile, are going through a deeper barren spell: two draws and a defeat in their last three outings for the Wolves, whose last win – excluding the cup – dates back to their opening league match. In short, the desire to get back on track is something both teams share, as they are currently separated by just two points – the small cushion the Granata can boast over the Giallorossi.
