Futsal: Folgore–Cosmos derby lights up matchday eight as leaders sit out

The San Marino Futsal Championship is gearing up for matchday eight, spread over three evenings and featuring several clashes that promise to shake up the standings, especially with Pennarossa idle this week.

The round gets underway on Tuesday evening with Tre Fiori v Tre Penne in Domagnano and Fiorentino v Juvenes Dogana in Fiorentino, both kicking off at 20:15. The Gialloblù, coming off a goalless draw with Faetano, are chasing a win to regain momentum after the heavy defeat to Libertas. Lining up against them is a Tre Penne side that, after a tricky start, seem to have found the right formula to climb into the upper reaches of the table. In Fiorentino, meanwhile, the Rossoblù will try to put an end to a difficult spell against a Juvenes Dogana team eager to get moving in the standings again.

Among the most anticipated fixtures on Tuesday night is undoubtedly the derby between Folgore and Cosmos at 21:45 in Fiorentino. The Giallorossoneri come into the game on the back of two straight defeats, against Pennarossa and Libertas, and are looking for a result that can get their campaign back on track. It is a different story for Cosmos, who returned to winning ways in the last round and want to build on that to stay in touch with the leading pack. Precious points will be at stake. At the same time, in Domagnano, Faetano will take on the Domagnano Wolves. It will certainly be an important match in terms of the table for Fabio Gasperoni’s men who, with a win, would draw level with Matteo Selva’s side. Both teams, in any case, are under pressure to react and find consistency in their results.

The final whistle of the day will sound at the Acquaviva Sports Hall at 22:00, where Libertas will face Virtus in a meeting between two sides coming off victories. The Acquaviva outfit have rediscovered confidence with a 4-0 win over San Giovanni and will look to back that up by trying to trouble the team currently fourth in the table, who are heavily reliant on their number 8, Matteo Moretti (seven goals in his last two outings).

The programme continues on Wednesday evening with Murata v Cailungo, with kick-off at 21:00 in Fiorentino. Rossoverdi currently sit bottom of the table with just one point and will have to deal with a Bianconeri side determined to go top, at least for one round, by taking advantage of Pennarossa’s rest week.

Rounding off matchday eight, on Thursday evening, will be La Fiorita v San Giovanni at 22:00 at the Acquaviva Sports Hall. For San Giovanni, picking up points could prove crucial in a season in which the new play-off format – reserved for the top eight at the end of the regular season – makes every result particularly significant.
