Futsal: Cosmos pegged back at the death as Libertas, Folgore and Fiorentino run riot
It was a bitter Good Friday for Cosmos, who against Domagnano saw a victory slip away that had seemed to be safely in the bag. It was a fairly balanced match, unlocked in the first minute of first-half stoppage time thanks to Matteo Giorgini, who put the Gialloverdi ahead. In the second half at Fiorentino, Domagnano found a brilliant Cavalli, on target in the same minute that Bologna struck his first goal of the night. His second made it 3-1 on 56 minutes. The scoreline stayed that way until the final minute, when Cavalli rekindled Domagnano’s hopes before striking in deep stoppage time for the final 3-3, again through their flying winger.
The other match played in Fiorentino was also very evenly contested, the one in which Tre Fiori secured third place in the standings. Bugli’s side took the lead through Nicolò Mariotti, while the second goal came from an unfortunate own goal by Alessandro Zonzini. The Juvenes-Dogana winger redeemed himself in the second half, netting the goal that halved the deficit for the Biancorossazzurri. However, there would be no more goals in the remaining twenty minutes, sealing Tre Fiori’s narrow win.
The other four fixtures on the programme for Matchday 27 were much more one‑sided, starting with the expected victories for Folgore and Fiorentino. The league leaders, in truth, only cut loose after the break. During the first half-hour, in fact, Gualtieri’s San Giovanni held their own, containing their powerful opponents, who went ahead on 10 minutes through Maiani. Once the dam burst, Fiorentino pulled away in the second half, with Maiani completing his brace and six other team-mates also on target: Zafferani, Busignani, Gasperoni, Moretti, Rossini and Ercolani – the latter from the penalty spot. In the closing stages, Volpinari of San Giovanni was sent off. It finished 8-0 to the Rossoblù, who on 18 April will face Folgore at the Multieventi in a match that had been expected to be decisive for top spot.
That will not in fact be the case, because the Falciano club have dropped points in recent weeks, although they responded well in the round before Easter. Their 11-0 win over Faetano speaks for itself. Five goals in the first half, with braces from Pellegrini and Ercolani, and six after the restart, where Pelliccioni and Rossi also completed personal doubles, added to strikes from Tassitano, Allasia and Iuliani. Libertas matched that tally, plunging Tre Penne deeper into trouble. Four goals for an unstoppable Burioni, with Taddei not far behind as he helped himself to a hat‑trick. For the Biancazzurri, Fantini’s brace on either side of half-time was little more than a consolation, given the 5-1 scoreline at the break. Also on the scoresheet for the Granata were Covi, Tamagnini and Davide Rossi. An own goal from Contato on 10 minutes made it 2-0 to the Borgo Maggiore club.
La Fiorita surge towards third place, naturally with one eye on Tuesday’s late kick‑off between Virtus and Pennarossa. The five‑goal haul against Murata has opened up a five‑point gap over Domagnano, while Virtus could close to within two points, albeit having played a game more. Ghiotti’s men broke the deadlock around the quarter‑hour mark, finding the net in quick succession through Belloni, Bernardi and Giuccioli. The latter completed his brace on 44 minutes, while Gualandi made it five on 53 minutes.
Looking at the table with three games to go, it is striking that the bottom five sides all suffered defeat. As a result, nothing has changed in the race for 12th place. That is good news for Murata and San Giovanni, currently inside the play‑off positions, and decidedly bad news for Cailungo and Faetano, who are four and five points adrift of the cut respectively. Tre Penne are not much better off, three points behind San Giovanni. With the head‑to‑head record in their favour and a goal difference that currently favours the Rossoneri by 11 goals, Galli’s men will have to end their winless run quickly if they are to close the gap. The positions at the top are virtually set, with the race for fourth place taking centre stage. La Fiorita have a clear advantage, despite a tough run‑in. Domagnano have lost ground and are unlikely to latch back onto the coat‑tails of the San Marino runners‑up, while Virtus must beat Pennarossa to put pressure on the Gialloblù. Libertas, meanwhile, can celebrate having mathematically secured a play‑off spot.
