Futsal: La Fiorita flex their muscles in the late fixture as the final act approaches
The penultimate matchday of the Campionato Sammarinese di futsal ends with a resounding win for La Fiorita, who sweep Pennarossa aside 6-1. Both sides had already secured their positions in the table, unable to improve on fourth and eighth place respectively, standings that nonetheless guarantee them a play-off berth. For the Chiesanuova club the Preliminary Round is unavoidable, while the San Marino runners-up will enter the competition at the quarter-final stage, with the possibility of meeting Fiorentino in a potential semi-final.
Three goals per half for Ghiotti’s men, who went in 3-1 up at the interval thanks to strikes from Belloni, Bernardi and Esposito. A minute before Delvecchio’s half-time whistle, Alessandro Ciacci pulled one back for Pennarossa. After the restart, however, it was all about La Fiorita, who struck twice in the opening ten minutes through Bernardi and Stolfi. The latter would celebrate again, sealing the final 6-1 scoreline in the 55th minute.
Here is the summary of the 29th matchday of the Campionato Sammarinese di futsal:
Six positions in the play-off bracket are already set in stone, with Cosmos and Libertas also certain of taking part and set to face off from a distance on the final day to determine who finishes ninth. The same applies to Virtus and Domagnano, battling for fifth place – a position the Wolves can only snatch by overturning the goal difference in the event of a tie on points. The final two berths for the post-season are still up for grabs. With Faetano now out of contention, Murata, Tre Penne, San Giovanni and Cailungo are in the race for the two remaining spots.
Cailungo have no choice but to go all out for a win against Tre Fiori. A draw, combined with simultaneous defeats for Tre Penne and San Giovanni, would in fact leave the Rossoverdi in the penultimate place because of their head-to-head results against Galli’s and Gualtieri’s sides. In that scenario, the decisive factor would be a three-way tie which – only in that case – would see San Giovanni finish above Tre Penne, who currently sit ahead of the Neroverdi in the table on goal difference. Under that latter condition, the Città club would qualify for the play-offs if they end level on points with San Giovanni alone.
Only Fiorentino v Juvenes-Dogana has no bearing on movements in the table, given that the long-distance battles for fifth and ninth place will be played out on different pitches and involve teams still fighting either for the last play-off places or to improve their final position.
